If you're soon going to release demo with modding tools, so we can create our own levels, and then you will proceed to improve engine to supports height (stairs and going up and down), would our levels be incompatible with newer versions of engine, once it is out?
First of all, scratch that "soon".
Tsak can't stop pushing to release the demo with all the new graphics (as in: all of them!), so that adds a bit of work. But it will look amazing.

Second, map formats will definitely change, but it doesn't matter.
Maps are made in Doom Builder 2 as a WAD files and only then they get compiled for Dread.
So it anything breaks, it should be just a matter of recompiling a map for newer engine version.

Fair enough, thanks for the info, and quick reply.
Quality takes time - we all understand that.

The project's name is 'Dread'. But there isn't any game made yet, it's just an engine. Once the engine is complete a new game might come out of it. And yes, it runs on an Amiga 500 + 512k.

Plans to release a playable demo is also on the table, which is what the team is currently working on.

@KK/Altair

Congrats on a job well done. I never was a big fan of playing Doom but I did own an Amiga 500 and this is impressive coding!

Salute!

Haha - lol.

He could do the video with Scala Multimedia (screens + text).
And just stream it, realtime.

Will the video have a link in the description on where to buy F5 key replacements?

I need a recap (no, not related to the keyboard), talking about the engine now. Does it do something similar to Duke Nukem 3D on Sega, only half the vertical lines except the blitter copies it to fill the screen?

Example in the video time stamp:
Code:
https://youtu.be/RWlozlvbXk4?t=1231
What about updating the frames? On the Sega, DN3D updated a 1/3 of the background at a time. Will this engine have the same option?

Example in the video time stamp:
Code:
https://youtu.be/RWlozlvbXk4?t=1317

Sorry for sporadic updates, but the videomaking is killing me (considering the limited free time I have).
Maybe next time I should make shorter "status update" rather than a detailed "making of".

In any case, stay tuned.

Making thse kind of videos could be time consuming. I would be happys much less "pro level" updates of this interesting project.

It *IS* time-consuming to do a video where you are very specific about what you are showing and telling. You can't blame a guy to try to do a video as good as it can be to get his message across exactly as he wants it..

Now that it seems he has a fan-club who impatiently hammer the F5 button ;-) it is understandable they would assume that KK would prioritize the information flow to the fans, but remember, he's not primarily a YouTuber, he is a magician who's working on one of the coolest projects Amigaland has seen in a good while, and all he asks from us is a bit of patience. ;-)
So how about we all go and do something else for a while and let him do his thing.

Yeah, let's all just relax for a bit and not stress the guy, subscribe to the youtube channel and thread and just wait patiently, it's going to be fine.

Take the time you need guys.

Of course we don't want to rush him. But it's okay to have a bit of tongue in cheek fun right?
