kipper2k ide board and kickstart switch
im trying to have both my kickstart switch and kipper2k 8meg board with ide to both work. the kickstart switch is too tall and both boards wont fit together, I made a relocation cable to move it closer to the trapdoor so its out of the way, but my 1.3 works, when I switch to 3.1 I just get a red screen. I checked all pins and everything is good. anyone have any ideas?

Does the 3.1 chip work OK on it's own.

works perfectly, and when the switch is plugged into the rom socket they both work perfectly. but when I plug it into the cable only 1.3 works, I have triple checked the cable, all pins on both ends are perfect.

You will have done a continuity check from each pin to each socket but also check that there's not two address lines tied together or something like that. Also that in the jiggling and moving one of the wires to the switch may have come loose and be just holding on.

hmm,i remember something about some kickstart switches not working properly with 1.3 and 3.1
did it work before with both? have you tried other kickstarts? |

yes, same thing happens with 1.3 and 2.04. red screen on 2.04, 1.3 works, but both work plugged in to the socket. now I've seen quite a few other kickstart switches that are on a couple of inches of ribbon cable, so I don't know why this isn't working.

and no matter which socket I install the kickstarts into, 1.3 works and the other doesn't. either left or right socket

The ribbon cable length is kept short to avoid timing issues on read.
