ancient configuration - uaegfx problem

today i wanted to revisit my very first amiga emulation setup from 1999, made with winuae 0.8.8r3.
it used to work without any problem 17 years ago, but today i get following strange error attached.
what went wrong? has anything changed respectively emulating rtg since 0.8.8? how can i fix this?

Check the info on the icon. You might have double entries in there (on one icon).

no tooltypes at all are contained in uaegfx icon. only "icon by martin huttenloher"
anyway, i managed to download an old winuae 0.8.8 release 3 for test purposes.
i had to run this old piece of emulator on an old windows 98 pc for it to work.
booting old 1999 configuration in its original home environment works no problem.
there is no uaegfx error or similar in winuae 0.8.8 r3, workbench 3.1 just boots.
something in emulation must have changed along the long journey of winuae.
before toni wilen there were matthias ortman and brian king and who else?
where can i read development history of uae/winuae? curious about beginnings.
and i'm interested in "milestones" each version of the emulator had to offer.
for example, when was aga implemented, when rtg, when was 030 added, etc.

Probably something must have required something manual in early days but now it loads automatically. Perhaps there is something in startup-sequence.

I don't know where to find old not-official UAE changelogs..

It sounds like you could use a compilation of old WinUAE versions before Toni Wilen became the sole developer.

I shall compile one if there is both sufficient interest and no objection.

Your Win98 PC will run most of them, and certainly all those from 0.8.x onwards, though you may have to update the DirectX drivers for the later ones.

No; not if version 0.8.8 r3 didn't work.

WinUAE 1.4.6 is last version that I know that work on Win9x.
UAEGfx* files are unchanged from WinUAE 0.8.8 to now.

Maybe you need to copy p96refresh and rtg.library from "*\WinUAE\Amiga Programs"!?!? I don't know if they are changed from when 0.8.8 is released. There is none of them in 0.8.8 installation.

Check if Devs:Picasso96Settings exists and if yes, delete it.

0.6.4 is last version that works on 386 machines. 0.6.5 uses bswapl instruction which is 486+ CPU instruction.
I think that 0.8.8 is first that have AGA.
