So I followed the guide hosted by this website perfectly (except for some names) then installed Workbench 3.1 to the System hard file that was formated but when the Amiga restarts its just the AmigaDOS () I have tried EVERYTHING.

I have all the files if anyone needs them.

What happens if you do format on drive, then simply copy the contents of the Workbench disk to HDD.
Copy DF0: (if your using internal drive) all to DH0: (if your using DH0: as partition name).
If it dont boot then, you aint setup HDD properly.

I copied it over to the HDD and the same thing happened, but how could it be setup wrong? Do I need to set the boot priority?

I assume it's coming up showing the AmigaDos CLI window. If this is the case then take a look at s:startup-sequence with a text editor and see if the last two lines are.

c:loadwb
endcli >nil:

If not then make it so. If you don't know how to do this then type this at the CLI prompt.

run ed s:startup-sequence

It's also possible that something is failing during s:startup-sequence and it's getting aborted before executing the last two lines. I've had the most trouble with this happening getting an RTG screen to run.

This the output after "1> run ed s:startup-sequence":
[CLI 2]
1> ed: Unknown command
ed failed returncode 10

You need to see the startup-sequence, load workbench disk then open shell and do ed dh0:s/starup-sequence.
Or with floppy in drive, do early startup menu and select boot with no startu-sequence, thendo the ed command.

The workbech disk you used, does it actually boot?

Yes it does boot on the floppy, when I put ed DH0:s/startup-sequence it opened a new window titled Ed 2.00 and said "Creating new file" at the bottom of the window.

I guess you simply do not install to the boot drive, or in other words, you simply don't boot from the drive you installed to. The installation process does not change which drive is the boot drive. The boot drive is derived from boot priorities assigned to partitions during partitioning, or, if you don't use partitioned harddrives, by the order of the harddrives in WinUAE.

The topmost entry in WinUAE usually is the boot drive. If your HDF is not the topmost entry, then you should move it to the top. Alternatively you can increase the boot priority for the System HDF. The drive with the highest priority is the one which boots the Amiga, even if it does not contain any system files (as in your case).

It sure sounds like the startup-sequence is running into an error and aborting before it has a chance to set up much, like the path and assigns. The problem is that most of the commands in the startup-sequence have a >nil: which silences any error message that a command might report.

If I had to guess I'd say the problem is before the FailAt 21 command towards the beginning of the startup-sequence. I've run into this many times and I've never really figured it out.

This is like trying to tell the doctor what your disease is.

If the Kickstart was corrupted, WinUAE would not accept it.

I am still convinced that you haven't installed Workbench to the right drive. It simpy boots from an empty drive, that's the reason why no files can be found.

Enter cd at the DOS prompt to find out which drive you are booting from. Then install Workbench to this drive. Or change the boot order so that you boot from the drive you installed to.

Do a quickstart and set your kick as kickstart, then select HDD and try again.
