RAW dumping question
Hi,
I've been backing up my non original amiga disks to adf using disk2adf, as I am looking to get rid of my floppies due to lack of space. If I needed to write them back to floppy I can easily do this using the various transfer tools. I was wondering, in a forward-thinking approach, whether it is worth using the CAPS dumping tool to dump these disks. The reason I ask is that the CAPS tool re-reads ever track 5 times to get an accurate dump of the disk, even if it is unusable to anyone outside of CAPS. Would there ever be the possiblity of future programs to extract adfs from RAW files? If any adf making programs out there verifies the data to the extent of CAPS then it wouldn't be needed |

Well why not transfer then compare them to tosec, that way you can make anything that is not out there available, and remove anything that is easily available

Okay download ClrMamePro, goto the tosec website (www.tosec.org i think!!) and download some amiga datfiles (makesure you get the Clrmame dats)
Next get on IRC and I'll explain how to use clrmame (I can't be arsed here, on IRC I can say do this, do that and you can tell me when done ) |

Yeah, it is probably not worth using the CAPS dumping tool for this.
And I can't see any preservation advantage enabling ADF's to be produced from RAW files, and especially considering that some work would be needed to do it. There are so many other more pressing things to do... Last edited by fiath; 06 October 2004 at 17:29. |

I'm sure if you get on IRC and bump into either BippyM or myself we can send them that way if you get a problem. Site things just keep getting jinxed atm... |

so whats the best / most accurate way (if there is) to creating adfs - using a PC(disk2fdi) or amiga (transdisk/disk2adf) or does it not matter? thanks
