Zak Mckracken, 256 colour version

apologies if this should have been put in game requests?

Most of you guys probably know that a new version of ScummVM was released a couple of days ago, and that the new version has support for the fm towns version of zak mckracken which ran in 256 colours! zak was a brilliant lucasfilm adventure and i'm really looking forward to trying it out. thing is the one place i actually managed to find it, the disc image is bad and 1 important file can't be read 49.LFL

has anyone else got a working copy of this game by any chance?

@retroman

i know this is an amiga board, but i plan on running it on my pc but anyone who played adventures on the amiga must have played (and loved) zak so i didnt think it was too off topic posting it here

@ian

thanks for the links, screenshots look lovely, however i should have said, i found zak at jcec.co.uk and thats the one that is a bad disc and no theres no chance i wrote a bad copy as i mounted the image with daemon tools and it had no problems reading the other files, its just that 1

The image is not bad, that's part of the copy protection.

Sure?
When I had problems with *.LFL room files (eg Larry), it was always caused by a disk error. After replacing the LFL from another disk the game worked again beyond this point.

i seriously dount its copy protection, theres a zakkan directory (kanji?) which i cant attempt to copy at all so maybe that dir is copy protected somehow. but for the zakeng directory its fine with every file apart from one which gives a plain old read error.

@andreas: Yes, sure! Because we're talking about an iso image... BTW: Larry is from Sierra. Only games from LucasFilm have LFL files.

I own an original copy of this game. The file 49.LFL is stored on a sector with wrong ECC data. If you play the game and try to leave San Francisco the game checks the ECC data. If the ECC data is wrong, everything works fine. But if you copy the disc (and your burner corrects the ECC data) the game says "This is a limited game, since the Copy Protection failed".

The reason why you cannot copy the "zakkan" directory is because the image you have is ripped. The complete image of track one should have 60 megs...

thanks for the info, i thought the iso was a bit on the small side. is this ripped image any good at all? scummvm wont load the game from the image mounted under daemon tools and my attempts at writing the image have failed

I've uploaded the file "49.LFL" to the zone. I don't know if ScummVM can bypass the copy protection but the game should work at least...

DAMN! What was it then?
But you're right. Sierra would always come with resource files (*.001, *.002 etc.)
It was Indiana Jones, now I remember! Indy on my real A500. Because the disk had an error, I always got a R/W error and couldn't continue the game from this point.

grab the pc ver of scummvm from http://scummvm.sourceforge.net/

grab the iso of zak from
http://www.jcec.co.uk/fmtownsgames.html

grab 49.lfl from the zone

mount the iso with daemon tools and copy the zakeng directory onto your hd. everything will copy apart from 49.lfl so use the one windowskiller posted in the zone.

and away you go!

no sound yet however, not sure if there would be any anyway, think it has cd audio and the iso is just a data rip.

Hi Belgarath! I know this topic is QUITE old .. however right now I am facing the same problem - corrupted 49.lfl file. I've been looking for Fmtowns version for a long time, being a huge fan of all scumm quests. If it's not too impudent to ask and you're still attending those forums, perhaps you could share this file?
