Post SFS Hardfile recovery problem

OK - after winblows went tits up I lost my HDs, so after re-installing windows and a few well used utils, I turned to my 2nd HD (the one with my Amiga stuff on it) and used a recovery tool to rescue my 7 GIG amiga hardfile. So far so good.

however, the hardfile was SFS formatted, and while SYS: seems to be in order, the other 4 partitions are showing as Non DOS (tho' the partition information has been retained).

No problem, SFSSalv will get the stuff back - but it crashes. Any idea how I can recover this stuff.

I still have the orig CD backup from my old "real" amiga, but it was an '060 optimised system, and I don't want to have to go through the downgrade to '040 ritual again.

Any ideas?

Only thing I can think of at the moment is increasing the stack value in SFSsalv's icon.

It may be crashing because it's not high enough due to the huge number of files and directories.

I've almost given up (although I still won't use the partition that the hardfile was on, in case someone suggests something I haven't found).

The worst thing is, I can recover files in isolation, but if I try to recover the contents of a virtual partition, I get bits and pieces, no error reports and no full recovery.

Even worse - I can't find my backup ((((((((

Hi!
Some SFS-versions do have a ".deldir" option (not sure if it's useful on a
NDOS disk, but maybe worth a try (f.e. dh2:.deldir).
You should read the sfs-manual for your sfs-version, as I'm not sure
if it is called .deldir...
Good luck!

Directory is .recycled and not .deldir.
But is concerning a valid partition...

Hi!
Grrr, doesn't work
Then .deldir was PFS3 (?).
Maybe you should try to mount the hds under linux ?
Sorry no other hints
once again, good luck!
cheers,

Big grin

Hello!
I started a old os 3.9 backup and started SFSSalv. It works!!!!!
In front end i selected "all" button and "undelete" button (need destination path for backup).
After 5 hours i recovered 99% !!
SFSSalv don't work on OS 3.1.

Nope - it seems SFSSalv (latest version) will recover files - if I select them individually, and only a few at a time - which would take an age. I really need to get it to recurse through the entire partition and bring everything back in one go.

Still can't find my backup, BTW
