C=64 using Pc monitor

Hi:
I would like to know what do I need exactly to use it. Reading and searching a bit I know I could use a converter like this: http://www.ebay.es/itm/TV-RCA-Compos...06df20e&_uhb=1

or perhaps this: http://www.ebay.es/itm/Dreamcast-VGA...47477d8&_uhb=1

and a C= video to S-video like this: http://www.ebay.es/itm/291017503992?...84.m1438.l2649

to get a result like this: [ Show youtube player ]

but I was wondering (I don't like so much cables) if I coudn't use just the C= video to S-video cable and an S-Video to VGA cable like this: http://www.ebay.es/itm/VGA-Computer-...055a04b&_uhb=1

and also I was wondering how do I get the sound from the C=64.

I assume that last cable isn't going to work. It seems to be for the opposite purpose of converting a VGA signal into other signals, not s-video to VGA.

I'd also think that for the s-video output of that converter to work the outputting graphics card needs to support such use of the VGA port. Converting VGA to s-video requires quite a bit of electronics, and I can't imagine it could be made to fit inside that plug and at that kind of price.

And how can I get the sound using a Pc monitor?

Edit: Ah, ok the s-video cable has an Rca audio jack. I will need just an splitter to get it stereo.

That last cable is for video cards that output all that stuff through their VGA port. It's not a converter. It doesn't doanything, it's just a cable.

You NEED an upscaler to connect a C64 to a VGA monitor. There is no other way.

The converter you ordered should work fine. However many video-to-VGA converters always convert the frame rate, so the VGA output frame rate is 60Hz even for PAL 50Hz input. That means that smooth-scrolling games & demos aren't quite as smooth. I'd be interested to hear whether your converter has an option to not convert the frame rate.

I think it gets a wonderful quality. I don't mind if I -perhaps- lose a bit of smooth scrolling.

And you know... back in the day we used small monitors/Tv's, but I'm not going to use a big old CRT, so better a Led Pc monitor with so high quality.

hi,

I used a similar to the 1st one you mentioned, I built a custom cable for c64->svideo. The results were mixed, there was some colour bleeding , but playing with the contrast/brightness/hue controls helped a bit.

I had 3 of them, they all look the same but some give better picture and some are crap. They also die after few months of heavy use.

Have you seen this? http://www.commodoreserver.com/BlogE...4A104C65DB541E

Edit: And this too: http://www.bigmech.com/misc/c64mods/noisereduction.html

Perhaps your cable isn't right. And you, lukassid? Perhaps a bad s-video cable without the 300Ω resistor on pin 6, Chroma, can destroy the converter with time. Edit: The cable I've ordered hasn't got the resistor either.

Perhaps some guy here could make the right/best s-video cable and sell it...

I dunno, my local market one of them behind their CCTV monitor, which has been there and working for as long as I care to remember

i got this one now: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221032560515
I also send one back to other ebay seller as picture was shaking.
I don't use it now as I managed to get HP 2025 monitor with s-video input. It works great with A600 too. I got PC connected with DVI, Amiga with VGA and C64 with S-Video to same screen.

You can have my dead one as I can't find that ebay seller anymore. Just pay the postage.
I bought 3. First was good but died after 6 months, second is working great http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221032560515, third was looking almost the same but picture quality was rubbish.

Yep, I want to see how it works.

And now, (completely off topic) as I haven't found an appropiate place to post this absolutely wonderful video, watch this "modern-retro" video of a C=64 connecting to bbs:

Sure. I don't have an amiga monitor to vga cable so i won't be able to see what the quality is like or if it will even work, since it has VGA-input too
