Am I the only one who doesn't like AmiKit that much?

Whenever I've tried it, I always find a few things wrong with it:


1) The use of a PC directory filesystem (I tend to believe an HDF is neater and tidier!).

2) It always takes absolutely ages to finish starting up compared to other WB packages.

3) It keeps popping up that annoying Directory Opus nag window everytime you start up, interrupting the aforementioned long boot process in the, erm, process. I don't care for the app yet I'm being asked to register anyway.

4) The whole setup window-wise just seems very confusing, and nothing like the sort of WB setups I'm used to. Where's the archiving program for instance? Why list files in detail columns?

5) It can't even keep your MakeCD registration details forever. Everytime you start the app up you're asked to input your reg info again, even though you did just that several seconds prior. It even states in the readme that there's trouble in storing the info permanently........ if PC directories are used, rather than HDFs.


Granted, eye-candy wise it looks well glamorous, but useability-wise it's about as enjoyable as man's own sliced sausage*.

I used it for a while but didnt like it in the end. Amigasys3 with OS3.9 installed together is very nice though, not exactly the same feel as WB3.1 but hey its still a nice OS to use and its super quick to load and do stuff. Plus no nag screens halfway through loading

What version of DOpus does it use then?

Why not use the same DOpus as ClassicWB (with no nag)

I've never used AmiKit but it seems a bit strange.

I personally use PC directories, if I do use an hdf I usually have a second hdd setup as a PC dir so I can easily transfer files between the PC side and WinUAE.

Deactivate Dopus Magellan in the s-s, pretty easy.

Anyway, if you really want to use Wokbench instead of DirOpus Magellan, here's quick guide how to do that:

• Click the boingball located at taskbar -> Tools -> System -> Startup-Sequence. At the bottom of the text, there are two commands:
  
  ;LoadWB
  LoadDB
• Put a semicolon in front of the LoadDB command and remove it from the LoadWB command so the lines will look like this:
  
  LoadWB
  ;LoadDB

Yep, works as an WB replacement. Without it feels much more like a classic amiga.

WinME 1999 was the first Windows version I ever used.... It never crashed on me, I was amazed to read in the forums about it being a buggy piece of Sh*t!
