Today's spam: Reported post indicator
Hi, today i saw few spam posts, and of course i wanted to report them.
On the second spam report, i noticed that here is 60 seconds delay until the next reporting is allowed. Can we have an indicator, icon, text or something near the thread title or as a post icon, which would show that the post has been already reported for spam/investigation ? |

Just answer and write reported - that's what I do.

I think the 60 seconds delay you are seeing means you can only report SPAM once every 60 seconds.
Maybe people were abusing the system in the past reporting other peoples genuine posts as SPAM because they fell out with that person? |

This also includes other moderation tasks, like thread merging, quarrel resolution, title editing, technical errors, etc. So yeah you can't just have that I believe. The delay is there so people don't abuse the system. It's only blocking you from reporting too frequently. Pace yourself. |

Yes, but in case of spam it would be nice to see if the post is already reported, and to report maybe the next post, which isn't.
Anyway if it can't be done, then its ok. I also have had the idea, maybe if 10 registered members (for example with at least 3 months of membership and 50+ posts) report the same post, it gets hidden, and the user gets a posting stop until a moderator checks the situation. I know that this may not be possible now, but maybe, if the spam continues, that such system gets implemented, somehow ?! |

that sounds easily abusable, considering the handful of topics that regularly turn into flamewars (Vampire threads, etc). While mods would surely ban the offenders and fix things promptly, I can still imagine it being used to silence legitimate posts while mods aren't looking.

Yes but Mod's would see who reported the posts, because the post would land into their moderation area.
And if there are abusers, who misuse this to what you have imagined, then the mods could simply ban them, or permanently delete their accounts ? And mod's will be looking if they get spammed with reported posts. Anyway, this are only suggestions. And i'm concerned only about those 1-post-url-spam bots. Do their inventors seriously think that someone is going to click on those ? |
