PRISM - Deluxe Paint before it was Deluxe Paint ??
Hi guys !
Haven't been in here for a long time. Hope you are all doing well in these bizarre times. Spent the last few years collecting C64 stuff - but do stumble on the odd Amiga title that brings back great memories. My most recent haul included a few common Amiga items - but one mysterious one... For which I am trying to do some research on. Hopefully you knowledgeable chaps may be able to shine some more light on it. I have come across a complete - and in pretty great condition, copy of Prism. On opening the manual it seemed to be an imitation of Deluxe Paint, so I looked online to find out some info about it and found very little. I did find some info from the Computer History Museum which seemed to say that it was an in-house graphics tool that was used before D-Paint. Dan Silva decided that the tool should be available to everyone and upgraded it and released it as Deluxe Paint with the release of the A500. I'm guessing it was developed on the 1000 maybe ? It seems to imply that it was not commercially released - but the packaging and disk I have seem to suggest otherwise. Unless only a few copies were made and spread between developers ? Who knows... Hopefully someone. I cannot find an ADF file of it, or any mention of it on TOSEC. I have tried to reach out to the guys at the museum but have had no reply yet. Ideally it would be great to get in touch with Dan Silva. He seems to be on LinkedIn - but I cannot contact him as you have to have a monthly membership. Anyone have any information about it ? It seems to be a bit of a rarity. A member of a facebook group linked a review from a computer magazine, but that's all we can find. I was a big D-Paint fan back in the day when doing demo graphics (as I'm sure everyone was). Would be nice to tie up the history of this program and stick some more info about it online - and eventually work out how to archive the disk. Thanks for reading guys. Please reply if you dig up some more info Will try and add a picture below. |

I don't think this Prism is the Prism that preceded Deluxe Paint, since it is stated that Prism was actually an MSDOS program.

You have a way to image the disk?
DeluxePaint was released at the same time as the Amiga 1000, so the internal tool called "Prism" definitely was never released. This is a different program. |

Definitely a different program. The predecessor to DPaint was an internal tool that was never commercially released.
I’d guess that’s an early 3D program. I think Impulse were the developers of Turbo Silver, a 3D renderer. That Prism that you have could be a predecessor or companion product to that. |

It was a HAM paint program, a competitor to Digi-Paint.
