External Gotek to 1200 cable

Hi all. I bought a gotek and an external cable. The gotek ide connector fits fine but the amiga one is too big. It fits in the serial port fine but not the external floppy drive port. Have I got the wrong cable or d I need to adjust the connector with a hacksaw?
