Alternatives to CDXL format

Can anyone tell me if there is an alternative format to CDXL where an animation and audio track can be interleaved in one file? I'm asking because I would like to try converting some AVI's to standard animations to be shown on a CD32 but the CDXL format seems limited as I can only get about 4 FPS at 320x240 resolution with HAM6 (4096) colour frames.

I can play Anim5 HAM6 animations while streaming an IFF sample from CD with much better results except for the fact they are separate files and the animation player and sound player have to compete with each other for disk access.
