DATs in Excel & Access format
Shame there wasn't a TOSEC ADF games dat file done in Excel or another spreadsheet too. Although I do understand that not everyone is familiar with spreadsheets but to have that option available would certainly be very useful.
Nevertheless I'll just convert it myself so my search queries will be so much easier (ie. all at once ) |

That's why there is ClrMamePro If you use that you wont have to deal with anything. Just load the dat, point to your files and it will check them. Guess your spreadsheet is quite effective too

btw. I think I'll bin the idea of creating a .XLS, cause it'll take me flippin ages 'cause I can't use the standard set of deliminators to create the Fields . I may have a go, just depends on how long I'll live for |

If you really need a spreadsheet, I could write a small converter tool to make a CSV file from the dat |

Btw. I can load this straight into Excel, no problems, just how to create the correct deliminator for the fields. Using space is gonna create a whole load of un-necessary fields. |

Yes I have I will make a small tool next weekend. Like you said you can just open it with the right delimiter, but since the structure is consistent you can easily code a kind of converter.

Sure was quick 'n' dirty, it was so quick 'n' dirty I had already done that Only problem with doing it that way is all the data is in one column 'n' doesn't expand into different columns for the different data sets. The data needs to be separated with commas for Excel to define the different fields so it can separate the different data 'n' that means typing a load of commas all night where applicable Nope I don't think I have .Net 2.0 installed |

You did that manually? Must have been a long night
Well if you ever have another dat you wish to have as a spreadsheet just say it I would give you the tool, but you need .Net 2.0 and I think it's not worth to download 22.4 MB for one app However here's the link : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (just in case... ) |

No I haven't yet but what I did gave me the exact same result as what you had done. All I did was to load the Dat file into Excel 'n' it does a conversion for you
btw. I'm not downloading .Net 2.0, it'll take too long |

You can find an example in the zone (look for files uploaded by me and in the comment it says : Now in CSV format ). The program itself was made in 40 minutes and it needs a bit 'polish' before I would release it Just check the sample and if you are really interested I will make a version for public use

On the job now, don't need no conversions for the original TOSEC dat file. Found a way to to extract all the data needed for a spreadsheet style without losing any data
Although once finished it will need officially checking to make sure all data is correct, or rather, in the right place Sounds like a job for DamienD me thinks |
