Viper 030 accelerator board problems
Hihi
I was just given a second 1200 containing a viper accelerator board (apparently made by power computers) and I'm having a few problems with it... I don't know how to slow it down! I need to be able to run at normal speed sometimes The clock seems to be not working... it has in it a 4MB 72 pin SIMM, not sure how much larger it can take For some reason I couldn't get it to work at all without reducing my kickstart to 3.0, it was just crashing with a purple screen on kickstart 3.1 (!) The newicons on my workbench are now corrupt, since I can't slow it down I'm not sure if that's a result of the kickstart swap or the speed of the 68030 Any help would be appreciated |

If the clock isn't working, the battery probably needs replacing.
Look for a jumper to disable the board, it may be marked "Turbo" or something. Not sure if it can be disable with holding down a key like Blizzard boards. Not sure about the rest of the problems, maybe other people may have some tips or pointers. |

Hihi,
Tried all the keys I could think of, on the board there are three jumpers, none of which seem to want to drop the speed Put a new battery on the clock, it's still resetting even when I do ctrl-amiga-amiga Discovered elsewhere it has an MMU and can address at least up to 64MB (on one simm) so I shouldn't have problems compiling things with gg at least ;p |

Ok, probably not the same board I had then. (Viper030 28 MHz). It had jumpers to set RAM size (only up to 8MB fast RAM) and a "Turbo" jumper which disabled the 030. If the clock doesn't work even with a fresh battery, I'm not sure what else it could be other than defective, without saying thats the case, of course.

It seems you're talking about this card http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...cgi?HARDID=120.
Have you tried a different SIMM (4 mb or 8mb)? Maybe it's memory corruption... |

@Bamiga2002
Thats exactly what i was going to recomend. @Hideki It does indeed sound like a memory faulty failure if you need a simm to test it on I can send you an 8MB one ![]() |

Hihi
Okay, it's working relatively reliably now, clock is ticking (it seems it was disabled with a jumper) Soemone on usenet pointed me towards a disk with the software which includes a firmware update so it'll work on 3.1, however all I have is flash executable and the update file, it wants also an address and I have no idea what address it should be flashed at (and would rather not try to guess -.o) It's the same as a DKB 1240 board so if anyone has any idea how to flash it without killing it, I'm all ears. (or eyes) since I'd quite like to get 3.1 back in -.o; Thanks |
