Pools of Darkness - How to transfer characters

I tried long and hard to transfer my Secret of the Silver Blades characters to Pools of Darkness (WHDLoad) and failed each step of the way
(no characters found).
So here is how i finally got it to work:
- Locate ADF versions of both games (retromania.gg for example)
- copy your character files from your WHD install (save folder) to the save folder on disk 1 of Secret...
- start Pools of Darkness from floppy (ADF)
- importing chars from the disk version works as advertised
- do NOT remove chars thinking it'll create Pools files (that was yet another failed attempt for me)
- Begin Game (my copy was copy protected, but you can find the journal online to answer those questions)
- take the tour, or not, then go to the training hall, save and then remove char - now you got copies of your chars in Pools format
- copy the contents of the save folder on disk 3 of Pools to your Pools save folder in your WHDLoad installed Game
- done

BTW Pools of Darkness from floppy is almost as bad as Wing Commander from floppy...I had to switch disks just so it could add an "*" in front of an added character...

Or you could use MCE to edit your POD characters to match your SSB ones.

Why you use WHDLoad with Pools of Darkness? It is not needed! The game is fully OS friendly (like The Dark Queen of Krynn).

The only Gold Box games I know that require special treatments like WHDLoad are Champions of Krynn and Death Knights of Krynn (both need any Kickstart lower than 3.0).

I played the Forgotten Realms series without using WHDLoad on emulated JIT-Amiga with RTG and everything. Worked like a charm! I also do not remember issues with transfering the parties.
