For those who like the more mature pics... A1000 with add ons, topless,...
Bit specialist, this one... For those who like the more mature "lady"
I've just picked up an A1000, boxed, with manuals and elephantine 20MB hard disk. Everything works as well as the day it was made! http://eab.abime.net/album.php?albumid=76 The disk is a Xebec 9720h, which is a strange beast that doesn't support any of the standards that became prevalent - although it did work with kickstart 1.2 so was a tad ahead of the curve! As well as the 1050, giving 512kb of chip ram, there's a spirit Inboard 1000 in there, fully populated giving an extra 1.5MB. Joy! The mouse is the original 1000 mouse with the cranked connector - never seen one in the flesh before! The box is in excellent condition, and comes complete with the manual. Just to complete my little bit of geek joy, the little plastic protector on the tick mark on the keyboard is still there There is a real air of quality about this thing: the fan is silent and works well. The disk drive sounds damped (although it could be dust!) and works immaculately. Hearing an old ST-506 disk power up (like is in my HDA-506 Spirit hard drive for the 500) warms the heart of any old timer ;-) (I'm 35) Very, very pleased with this! |

Thanks / Diolch / Merci
Yeah, I'm chuffed to bits with it. There's something very gratifying about waiting for the startup sound, Kickstarting, then using the boot disk simply to get access to the hard drive - which my watch probably has more storage capacity than! It's been running games and demos for 8 hours solid. Rock steady. I ought to take pictures of the manual and boxes, too, just for the true specialist afficionado |

The A1000 has grandchildren (A600) but she's still not an old girl to me |

You lucky getting that!
She looks a beaut My 1000 doesn't have all those tasty add-ons though but like you say the build quality on the 1000 is top notch. Probably the best Amiga ever made imo build wise. Anywho enjoy her |

Cheers Paul, I am doing. It's a cracking machine.
If you think that hard drive is insane, you should see the one for my 500: it's bigger (physically)! |

chiark,
I've been disassembling the Xebec software so that (hopefully) emulation of it can be added to WinUAE. To help with that I'd like to see some high-res pics of the board that plugs into the Amiga, and the SASI controller board inside the external HD case, and the model of drive in the case. Any chance you'd be able to help with that? By the way, it should work with Kickstart 1.1 (and maybe even 1.0) too. |
