RMC - the Cave video on an Amiga floppy disc reader
[ Show youtube player ]
Interesting bit of hardware that allows you to read Amiga floppy discs directly from a modern computer. Very nice video that also demonstrates how to use WinUAE with it. More info at http://amiga.robsmithdev.co.uk/ |

I was hoping current USB floppy drives could have firmware hacked as they run off SMT chipset similar to what is used in Greaseweazle. However, this uses Arduino. Great project by @RobSmithDev - who is a fellow Amiga enthusiast from Leicester |

I’ve put my name down on the waiting list.
I’ve got about 260 blank disks left in a sealed box, now I just need to find someone who sells those disk labels we all uses to buy, they were red, blue, green, yellow lines and the bit that folded round the back of the disk. Can’t find any though I use a CF card inside an A1200 with WHD, but it will be great to write a few ADFs to use like the old days. |

I've had a play of this and I'm totally amazed at how well it works.
Kudos to Rob Smith (and Keir Fraser for the Greaseweazle side)! I've tested with my Greaseweazle F1 Plus boards (https://github.com/solarmon/Greaseweazle) and I was able to load AmigaDOS disks fine. And even long track games like Lemmings seems to be OK. But at the moment I can't get Xenon II (1 disk) to load. Lots more to test and try, but this is a big milestone! |

The device itself has been available for some time now. There are also other solutions like ADF-Copy (from a friend of mine).
What's new now are the enhancements to WinUAE and the firmware to support reading the disks DIRECTLY INTO WINUAE. This is quite complicated as is explained on the project's homepage. |

Yes but I’m no good with a soldering iron so would rather wait for the all in one solution.
