Made a small change on AROS One, now SMB2-GUI will not only generate the DOSDrivers (SMB2), it will also be possible to Mount the share on Windows or other OS.

The DOSDrivers generated with SMB2-GUI will be saved by the programme in Storage/DOSDrivers, and that for later mounting will have to be done via a script or a link to its Icon, perhaps conveniently from Amistart or BoingIconBar.

I would like to remind you not to run SMB2 from Devs/DOSDrivers, from WBStartup or from User-Startup, otherwise the mount will fail, this is because SMB2 must be run after Wanderer has been started.

I would also like to remind you that on AROS One there are two condamental tools for this service in the ExtrasInternetSMB2 path:

- SMB2-Restart = serves to ReMount SMB2, when Windows deactivates "by default" after about 15 minutes "network shares"-.

- SMB2-DisMount = This tool serves to DisMount SMB2

In AROS One v2.3 there will be some new features, three new folders "Benchmarks", "DemoEffects" and "DemoScene" that will include software that I found on Archives, Aminet and some Developer sites.

In "DemoEffects" you will find 40 good quality demos from the Italian developer "Calogiuri Enzo Antonio", see screnshot !

Thank you Zabi for testing AROS One

I have associated AmiFox with OpenURL requests, a tool used by Amiga/AROS Software to direct you to their site for any updates or news.

I would say that it is very fast and very practical to download the software, I made a small video showing the functionality of AmiFox !!!

In the attached video test, the PerCMan software once expired automatically redirects you to its site to get info and download the updated version

By Christmas I should be able to distribute the new version 2.3 of AROS One, there are a lot of new features in this release, updated Core, new software and a lot of updated software.

In addition I have created new configurations and completed the 4 Icon Sets, as always installable through a simple click, there are now almost a thousand of them.

Among the novelties of AROS One v2.3 there is the presence of 3 new Directories located in "Extras" it's about "Benchmarks", "DemoEffects" and "DemoScene", see screenshot, it's about a lot of very good Demo on RTG screen, many of them came from Amiga world.

AROS One 2.3, new version of the AROS x86 Distribution ABIv0, in this release there are many new features, Core and Third Party Software updates, in the list you can see in detail all the update

This is definitely the most stable version of AROS x86 ever released, many fixes concern Wanderer and Hardware compatibility, the hardware compatibility catalogue has also been reformulated, HERE you can consult it.

For the installation a clean (ex-new) installation is recommended, this is because the Core, configurations and location of some folders have changed, possibly for those who have their own configurations could make a backup and if compatible install them later.

For the next releases there will be huge changes to the Core which will be based on the latest ABIv11 source code, thus the same C library as the ABIv11 builds.

In addition, an emulator will be developed that will allow 32-bit AROS programmes to run under 64-bit AROS.

With which programme and version did you burn the USB image?
I downloaded and tested it and found no problems!

What hardware did you use, was it previously supported?

Burned with win32 imager. Renaming suffix to .img didn’t help with Etcher so I used win32 and changed drop down selection *.* or something similar.
Wrote successfully and tried on my Ryzen 3 pc

No need to rename, Etcher works fine with the .vhd extension, have you tried rufus (use version 3.x)

Also try changing Pendrives and try the Pendrive on a PC where AROS boots!

As a casual user I've wondered is there any preferred method to update an old installation? I tried to look once, but I didn't find anything, no updater scripts or instructions.

Is it that only options are either to copy new system files over manually or create a new clean installation and then try to copy/reinstall/reconfigure your own configs and programs? Or have I missed something fundamental?

I admit that I have skipped couple versions because of the laborous sounding updating process...

AROS is constantly evolving, I could create an installer to update automatically, but it is not worth doing because there are many changes.

With the Updated Core it is easy for some old files to be deleted which could be harmful if they remain, also a lot of third-party software has been updated, some settings and some file or folder paths also change.

As said the best solution is to make a backup of your settings and install clean (new) AROS, which then takes little time to install if you use a Pendrive.

Improved Datatypes Descriptor, now on Wanderer but also on Dopus4 it is possible to display all system fonts, both TueTypes fonts and Bitmap fonts with a single click.

The icons are of course not real, but those preset by the system, the famous Def_Icon automatically assigned to files that do not have an icon.

With Workbench 3x and 4x and Ambient MOS, on a default system, it is not possible to display fonts by clicking on them.

In any case, these descriptors could also be used on these systems, provided they have a font viewer!

Note that on AROS the Font.datatypes does not exist (sources can be found on Aminet)

Started the transition to the new Core and new Contrib software compiled with the new C library.

This morning deadwood made available the new Build and the new Contrib compiled with the new C library, the work of integration in the various Distributions has begun, a lot of work and a lot of tests before seeing some ready for users!

HERE you will find all the info and the Builds to download.

It doesn't seem to recognize an ordinary NTFS hard disk, which makes it of very limited usefulness.

AROS One recognises NTFS Disks, in the "Storage" folder there are 2 "ntfs-handlers" "experimental" , just copy one of them into the "L" folder and restart, NTFS Disks will be available.
