What Time Is It?

Hmmm...the time I am seeing here at EAB is one hour fast. In case any of the USA EAB members are confused, we move to Daylight Saving Time on the first Sunday of April, while the European Union 'spring forward' on the last Sunday in March!

Another one for you facts fans: in the US, we call it Daylight Saving Time (DST) as mentioned above, but the Europeans refer to it as Summer Time.

OK, no more fun facts until October 27... (or 27 October for you people with the funny accents!)

But in the US the change occurs at 2AM (local time), what's up with that

It's 2:00am in the US and 1:00am UT (Universal Time).

Here's what I have read on the topic explaining the choice of 2:00am:

"In the U.S., the changeover time was arbitrarily chosen to be 2 am, when most people are at home. This is practical and minimizes disruption. It is late enough to minimally affect bars and restaurants, and prevent the day from switching to yesterday (which would be confusing). It is early enough that the entire continental U.S. has switched by daybreak, and the changeover occurs before most early shift workers and early churchgoers (particularly on Easter)."

Just to let you know... in Brazil we call it Summer Time also, and the clock is changed at midnight, what give us some problems...

It happens that it is "Summer Time" when the new year arrives... so one never knows when he should celebrate the new year.
