A600 w/ 1MB Chip + 4MB Fast Ram = WHDLoad success rate?
I know this has been beaten to death and I did the search but all I've found is pretty much folks asking the question and there were no definite answers.
Thing is, I tested in WinUae Amiga 600 1mb Chip and 4MB Fast Ram config and to my suprise, some games do work using WHDLoad (like Turrican3, Magic Pockets, Ruff n Tumble). Now, I don't know if this would be the case with the real Amiga setup but if it IS the case, then even without the full 2MB chip ram, it seems a cheap investment to buy the 4MB fast ram and be able to play some WHDLoad games (and the rest play using floppy disks). It's certainly a better alternative then to use floppy disk for every game? What do you think? Thanks. |

If the game works in Winuae using a specific config, then that config will also work in the Amiga |

Indeed you'll find many games run with 1mb chip and 4mb fast, IMHO you're better off with one of Kippers Fast Ram expansions then just upgrading the chip Ram in the trapdoor.
You can always upgrade the Chip Ram in addition later once funds allow or if you manage to snag a cheap one on eBay (occasionally they end cheap) For the best results use a launcher like AGLaunch (part of the latest Classic Workbench packs) which also have an early boot menu to load the Games with the most free chip/fast ram available, this will give you the highest percentage of working Games. http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/gaae.htm (if you have 2.0Roms) http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/68k2.htm (if you have 3.1Roms) |

Ram isn't all that matters. 1 MB Chip/4 Fastram isn't that bad but a lot of WHDLoad games simply doesn't work with an 68000/68010 CPU, the slaves would need updates first.

^^I guess you're right BUT it sure beats not having any (fast) ram and having to load every single game using floppy disk.

Lots of WHDload games will work on 68000 also WHDload isnt the only way of playing games from HD makes me laugh when people buy 68030 128mb just for some simple games lol Last edited by Retro1234; 08 May 2013 at 18:19. |
