As you may have noticed, I've listed some marked with a [b] or an [a], but since TOSEC hasn't always proven to be 100% reliable (as evidenced by the recent Flashback episode), it might be best if all disks are thoroughly checked for irregularities just to be on the safe side!

So, if the AMR honchos wish to say anything on this, let me know.

Well tosec amiga (me and idoru) are always looking for members to help us out!

We need renamers, and members to test every game/adf from beginning to end for errors (thanks DamienD for Another World and Flashback), be they shit cracks or knackered adf's etc!!

You want in marz-bar gimme a holler and i'll hook you up.. a way to use your time more constructively!

And once you've verified the disks are virus free and have no errors (and preferably check if they have been modified), we will happily add them to AMR!

Note that we spent a lot of time going through and checking/standardising the disks. TOSEC has a lot of 82 track ADFs (eg. Zero) which are pointless as the last 2 tracks contain no useful data and are not accessed. That and MFM disks packed as ADFs which compress to about 2k = useless!

The aim of the AMR coverdisks is 100% working versions only and we would rather have a disk missing than have a non working version/bad dump.

Well I'd like to help out with disk checking....... I just need to know exactly what's the best way of checking for viruses/bad tracks etc (apps? etc). And bear in mind I'm solely confined to the WinUAE/emulation world - no way of using real/authentic Amigas for me now!

to check adf's you simply play the game/demo through from beginning to end toensure there are no errors/bad cracks etc

Ok, I'll try doing that whenever I have spare time etc. What about the SPS disks in the meantime though?

Marz: Any virus checker will do (any that use that xvs.library), it's basically just bootblock viruses - I use DiskWiz to ADF each disk to RAM and check that it didn't say there was a virus. To check the files are OK just copy all the files into RAM aswell, if there are bad sectors they will complain.

I can upload any coverdisks in SPS, I wasn't aware many were as we asked the SPS guys ages ago if coverdisks were going to be included but they seemed lower priority than other stuff like C64 or Atari ST which is imho, mad. We need these disks imaged now before they're dead!

Amiga Mania missing disk Ramses

Marz: In this thread you mention you have an Amiga Mania disk called Ramses which is presumably from an issue of Amiga Mania not in AMR and certainly not indexed:

Amiga Mania coverdisk index

Do you still have it or the mag itself?

Christ, that was like five years ago or so! I don't believe I have the disk still now, sorry to say. Neither do I have any Amiga Mania mags left over. Clearly preservation wasn't deemed an important thing to many people back in the day - I was certainly too young to know any better!

That reminded me to ask........ why did many other AmigaDOS-formatted disks get the SPS treatment, yet a lot of the time coverdisks are just ADFed?

SPS have always stated that preserving full games is the priority and that it isn't just about the protection but also making sure the disks are unmodified.

Coverdisks would be great, but unless the SPS team increases in size I can't ever see them finding the time...
