shangai 98 and monopoly extended

both Amiga games were commercial

There's not all that much info. about Shanghai '98 outside one or two threads on EAB (e.g. see HERE). Seems that an AGA version was available from the coders (Logistic Dreams), but people had to ask for it specifically when ordering the game from them(?). The OCS/ECS appears to have been uploaded on EAB before, but the AGA version (if it truly exists) is lost.

Any chance you can upload an ADF of Shanghai '98 (OCS/ECS) please? Apparently it was on a coverdisk of the German mag Amiga Special (not sure which issue). I have to wonder if that was a demo or complete version!?!

I put Shanghai '98 into GameBase Amiga sometime ago, I'll put the adf in the zone. It is an Amiga Special coverdisk although I'm not sure what issue it was either.

There's also an ipf of it as well.

Long time no see.....hope life has been treating you well.

Yeh I could only find an IPF of the game on the net, but was hoping that the coverdisk wasn't too heavily protected and someone had converted it to ADF. Anyway, would be brilliant if you could fetch out the ADF for me mate!

Know what ya mean about life......only just returned to posting on EAB myself after quite some time away (even HOL stuff got the boot for about 6 months last year - first time ever for me!). Anyway, thanks for the upload!

Two more games in the queue for inclusion in HOL - yay!!

Please feel free to lend a hand in putting together the HOL entries for these 2 games - a DBS and/or screenshots would be much appreciated if you can spare the time (hint! hint!)

I managed to find which Amiga Special issue the coverdisk was taken from:

Interestingly, on the cover, it says that Monopoli Extended was also reviewed in that issue.....which suggests that Shanghai '98 (OCS/ECS) was a coverdisk release rather than a commercial release (like Monopoli and the other games reviewed in that issue).

Where the AGA version fits in, I'm not sure.....unless that was the version planned for commercial release. Must take a closer look at the German text from the main menu link (Top 20 + andere spiele) to find out!

Anyway, if anyone has any info. that suggests that Shanghai '98 was ever released commercially, then please post here (or forever hold your peace!). Thanks to all for reading.......

Quick translation:

If you have an A1200 send us 10 dm for the AGA version, which if you install to harddrive you get 2 extra features:

Adding pictures to background
Use sound,noise, protracker mods as music.

Sounds commercial, although Logistic Dreams did charge more for the other games they released around the same time (25DM each for Talmino and Monopoli Extended AGA).

Trouble is there's no real way of knowing whether the AGA version of Shanghai '98 truly exists. Other than that snippet of text from the devs in the OCS/ECS version, I've found absolutely nada on the AGA version so far online. Not really enough to justify a separate HOL entry at this stage, but I'll keep digging.......

I just found this old thread here...

I have all CoverDisks from Logistic Dreams here (BattleTec, Talmino2 ECS and Shanghai98 ECS).
I have also the commercial boxed Versions of Talmino AGA, Monolpoli Extended and...
Shanghai 98 AGA. So it exits.

I just working on scans and screenshots to make everything ready for HOL.
