Exclamation Appeal for help to restore Nexusle's wrecked posts in this Forum

On 23rd March this year, for reasons better known to himself, Nexusle went on the rampage and destroyed many of his posts in Frode's support.FS-UAE forum, leaving the threads in tatters. This deliberate act of vandalism earned him a permanent ban when it was discovered earlier this week on 25th August. In the meantime, of course, a full five months has elapsed, so that it is now no longer possible to recover the damage, which pre-dates the earliest official EAB backup.

During yesterday evening and most of the night, I restored 25 of Nexusle's posts from my personal offline copies of some of the affected threads, and reconstructed a further 20 from quotes in other posts and a bit of guesswork. However, this still leaves at least 53 remaining unrecovered posts!

I would like to ask all EAB support.FS-UAE forum readers and contributors to let me know by posting here if they have any personal offline copies of the affected threads - even partial ones - dated 22nd March this year or earlier and would be prepared to upload them for me and allow this work to continue.

These are the relevant threads and posts:

Note: At least one additional post existed in this thread prior to 23rd March, but was then similarly wrecked before being deleted. It is still recoverable, provided it can be discovered what it contained.

Any help you can offer with this , however small, will be gratefully received.

It's possible that there are some deleted or damaged posts I have missed, or you may notice that some posts I have reconstructed are incomplete or inaccurate and, again, all your comments will be most welcome.

Finally, thanks for reading this.

I can't really help, prowler. But i think RCK should limit the post edit time to max. a week or something. What an idiot and not the first.

When Frode discovered the damage that Nexusle had done, it demonstrated that the backup system alone was not sufficient protection against this sort of event, and so RCK spent a great deal of time coding an extension to the vBulletin software. In doing so, a system has been implemented whereby - from this point on - if it happens again, an additional layer of protection will detect such changes, alert the moderators and provide a rollback feature!

It's amazing! It really does work!

So it really works now if another user do this again? Great job! A shame that 53 posts seems lost.

Yes, that's what it's been designed to do, and tests indicate that it really would work in that situation.

It's not over yet. Let's hope someone has personal offline copies of some portions of these threads which pre-date Nexusle's vandalism.

Yep, look at the 1st march web.archive.org of fs-uae:
http://web.archive.org/web/201303010...play.php?f=122

It may also help to grab old EAB's url and search them in search engine cache.

Thanks, RCK!

I will be taking full advantage of both those archives this afternoon!

Edit: I can see only two web.archive.org support.FS-UAE captures here dated 14th October 2012 and 18th May 2013. Maybe it depends on where you access the archive from. It will have to be Google cache, then.

Well, I finally managed to load the forum page capture for 1st March 2013 somehow, but all thread pages it links to were captured on 3rd June 2013.

Also, I just can't dredge up anything from Google cache as far back as that!

It looks like we'll just have to hope that someone here has those pages saved on his/her hard drive.

Some work/contribution conflicts in the FS-UAE database. Somehow childish, but it happens from time to time.
