n00b guide to getting whdload started please?

Hello all,

Finally got my real amiga 1200 working with the ADVSP install after several days of painstaking labour. Now I've got a question about the whole WHDload thingy:

I understand the part of the 2 roms beeing renamed and being placed in the devs\kickstart folder, done that.

Now I want to use my collection of (legally owned) .adf files in WHDload on my real amiga so I transferrerd 3 test titles beginning with an 'R' to the games\R folder on DH0 via winuae and CF-IDE adapter (just like I copied the classic WB ADVSP earlier) and put it back in my amiga. I click the 'drawers' icon and the update the gameslist.

But I should have known it wouldn't be this simple couse it didn't work.

Can someone please tell me how to get from a .adf on my PC to a working game in my real A1200 in a step by step manor? I would be very gratefull. I have searched the forums but can't find anything (maybe I didn't look good enough but that has something to do with a former brain injury due to excessive drinking, forgive me for that).

Thanks in advance (and maybe some later if it works too!).

If you want to use WHDLoad, it can't get much better than this : http://www.whdownload.com/
ADFs normally won't work with WHDLoad (to install the games) anyway.

Yep. Already preinstalled. Copy them on your Amiga and use DOPUS to unpack the games.

Woooooooooooooooot! I'm playing walker on my A1200 (real)! this is so frickin' cool. You guys forgot to mention to run the update scripts (did I say that right). I thought I just post it for anyone thinkng we missed a step.

Thank you so much, you guys know your s*#t.

I just downloaded and arc-ext it to the designated games/x/ folder and it worked.

Question though: Are all these games copyright free or something? It's just weird for me that all those titles are free to download (although I own them myself offourse).

Update scripts? Is that something ClassicWB specific?

Yes, but it's no must. You can put your games wherever you want.

He asked, I answered according to truth. He deserves to know if he is asking.

Of course. Don't get me wrong. I just wanted to add why we are allowed to upload or link to this old software here.

Yeah I asked concerning all the copyright enfindgement cases of lately. In holland (where I live) the goverment is banning the piratebay also in about 5 days. Thats f#$ked up. What will follow?!

About the 'update', I understood you should run the 'add files' button from the 'drawers' icon (next to the 'run' button in the lower left corner of the desktop). For as far as I know this is an automated update script from the games folder. I wonder if it also updates when you remove a fill, should try it.

You know what's a shame: Little big planet isn't one of the titles. But I've seen/played some great ones! I think I will register my WHDload though, that nag message sure gets very annoying very fast.

Are you sure you mean Little Big Planet? I'm quite sure that was never made for the Amiga.

Sorry, should have been 'little big adventure' oopss. Bought little big planet for my ps3 but I didn't think it was all what it was cracked up to be.

Still a shame though... wel I can always do it with good old floppies.

Er, neither was Little Big Adventure made for the Amiga If you find an Amiga game that isn't WHDified yet, you can check here : http://eab.abime.net/forumdisplay.php?f=22 and if it's not already requested make a new thread

Funny thing happened: The first game I tried was Jetsrike AGA (on my real Amiga) and it worked. The following time I used to search games I wanted and put them on my CF. Tonight when I tried Jetstrike AGA again (I wanted to actually play it) it gave me the 'can't allocate fastmem' message and the game didn't load. I changed absolutely nothing in my setup whatsoever since the first time I tried. Anyone got any idea as to why this had happened? Is there a way to get some more memory free prior to starting WHDload?
