Codetapper's new graphics, tile, level and map ripper!
I have been working for the last couple of months on an advanced ripping utility that runs on Windows. I started it because GfxRip from TomCat does not work properly on my Windows 7 computer, and lacks a number of options.
Notable features:
Here's a video of the tool in action, ripping the tiles and then the first level of Creatures from Thalamus: [ Show youtube player ] If you can use GfxRip from Tomcat, you can probably use my app! I need to clean up a few things but am hoping to release it very soon. Maybe some others can help join the HOL map-making team of Nico, Adrian and myself. I am after a snazzy name for the tool. If anyone has any brilliant suggestions please post them here or email me. I'm quite keen to know how many people are into ripping graphics and would be interested in using my app. |

Great project, Codetapper!
Any new tool that makes the ripping process more intuitive will be very welcome indeed! |

yes ! this tool is really good !!! i even hope that one day it will allow to process coin-op games graphics in the same way with palette management and all.
This would allow perfect graphic ripping with the right palette whenever it's needed |

I'm not really a big user of graphics rippers, but I'd definitely have a go at using it!

I have a few more ideas for additional features to add but the program has an auto-update feature anyway so I can release updates while people have a play. Hopefully people on here will help the Hall of Light reach 5000 map rips soon! (We're at about 3700 at present). Keep the names coming too please! |

It's written in Delphi and uses a few freeware components for the image handling and palette selection, so I suspect not.
In theory you could use it with MAME dumps, but getting a screen of tiles with the matching colour palette entries would be extremely difficult I imagine. Maybe some old mainly static-palette games (Metrocross? Kung-Fu Master?) you could possibly extract all the levels using it. I don't have enough experience with MAME to know sorry! |

well, i have some nice ideas about this
you pick the tiles with no colors Then you add the palette from the memory save from mame maybe searching infos for you in order to add what is missing to deal with coin-op games |

Amazing app! With great potential. I like all the suggestions for names, I thought to combine - mapripper - but that's got to be well used already. maptapper is nice
