Savedisks on Gamebase 1.5

Hello and sorry for asking but I think I don't get it:

I managed to install Gamebase 1.2 and Amiga Gamebase 1.5. I use WinUAE and even managed to put all games into the Games folder. Now I started to play Soul Crystal after making it playable in Gamebase ... but when I try to save the game it says I should put in a savedisk. Well, makes sense. But how do I do it? Can I make a new savedisk while playing using WinUAE? Do I have to do this before playing? What name must this disk have? The one mentioned in the game and where do I store that save file.

I hope you can help with this little problem.

Thanks in advance

The game itself says the disk has to be called "SoulSave". Here's what you do:
  • In WinUAE, press F12 to open WinUAE Properties
  • Go to Settings | Hardware | Floppy drives
  • Enter "SoulSave" (without the quotes of course) into the field Disk label
  • Make sure 3.5" DD is selected (that should be the default) and press Create Standard Disk
  • You'll be asked to save it somewhere, do that (e.g. call it "MySoulSave.adf" or whatever
  • Then insert it into one of the drives (I picked DF3 solely on the basis that disk D probably will be needed last; note that I have no idea if that's true because I've never actually played the game)
  • Go back to the game, click DISK and then INSTALL.N (note that you only have to do this once to prepare the disk)
  • Then click SPEICHERN and the rest should really explain itself
That's all. Have fun.

Generally unless the game specifically asks for a savedisk when you load it, I don't supply savedisks with the games.

Just use savestates, they are easier and quicker to use.

I understand - so if I started a game with Gamebase the rest works entirely with WinUAE without disturbing the Frontend. Did I mention that Amiga Emulation is a far worse nut to crack than DOS Emulation?

Thanks so far

I would argue the converse. Especially if we are talking about some old CD DOS games.

I agree with Retro-Nerd
There's quickstart in WinUAE so the only thing you need to know is on which hardware the game was supposed to run (A500 and A1200 for 99% ). In DosBox (I guess you use this for emulated Dos games) you need to set up the whole 'enviroment' yourself and create a special config for DosBox if needed. So for me the Miggy is far easier to emulate

You are right Belgarath. I wish I had discovered GameBase earlier, but now with all my configs set up I really can't let them go (even if it's stupid not to use GB ). I have one question though. Does GB support cracked and trained games? (You know I'm a bloody cheater )

It supports adf/ipf/whd and when I pick adfs I always try and get trained versions.

edit: oh and new release this weekend.
