SCSI CDROM Problem

Hi there!

My SCSI CDROM Drive arrived today. I have connected it with the SCSI PCMCIA cable that I got at the Amiga Revival Fair and have installed the Squirrel SCSI Drivers (There is no labeling on the device but it was suggested that its Squirrel)

In anycase after installing the drivers and rebooting the Amiga when I go to mount the SCSI Device with the Squirrel software it shows up a MATSHITA CDRW at device 0 but when I try to mount it gives me the error:

"Invalid Rigid Disk Block"

Any ideas? I dont have any CD32 games to try I was using a Amiga Classics Collection CDRom that says its both PC and Amiga compatible.

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

The message implies that you are trying to mount the drive as a harddrive. "Rigid Disk Block" is the name of the Amiga's partition table (like MBR / Master Boot Record on a PC). A CD does not have such.

In order to read CDs you need to install a CD file system like AmiCDFS, CacheCDFS, AsimCDFS or AllegroCDFS. You can download AmiCDFS from Aminet, the others are commercial products.

Thanks for the reply but it looks like I fixed it, the wrong device number was in the CD0 file, I changed it and now I can see the Icon for my Amiga Classix CD

If I get any CD32 Games is it just a case of putting them in the drive and running them? I chose the option to install the CD32 emulator when I installed the SCSI drivers.

Cheers,

Steve.

Perhaps you might find some games which can be started from Workbench, but most games probably require to be booted from CD.

The IDEfix97 package on Aminet contains a CD32 emulator which worked quite well for me in the past.

The driver disk you have contains an emulator, it should give you the option to install it.

Indeed, better than the IDEFIX 1. Every CD32 game worked with it, unlike the IDEFIX CD32 Emulator.

As I said, if you want the driver disks let me know, I could also scan the manual if you want.

I installed the CD32 emulator along with the drivers but I don't see any files for it. I am guessing it will load up when I indert the CD? I need to get a few CD32 games, some of the classics.

As far as reading the discs thats fine, have been messing around with the Classix CD's some of the PD games on there are pretty fun

Whats the best utility if I want to write to CD or isn't it worth it?

(I've got the a CF reader)

Thanks or the replies!

Insert your CD32 game in the drive and reset. It should auto boot it.
If not, you may have hold left mouse button, or was it right mouse button???

Use makecd, its now free.

Well I tried a couple of CD32 iso's that I got (Legally) from Dream17 burned them to a CDR and they dont seem to work. The CDROM sees them and gives me an icon but they don't boot when I restart the Amiga.

If I hold down the two mouse buttons I dont get a CD0 as a boot option, any idea where I am going wrong? I made sure in the CD32 pref's I have selected the correct device.

If its becuase they are iso's and not a real CD32 disk then I will try again when I get my first CD32 game...

Ermmmm, Both mouse buttons???

I said its either hold left or hold right, cant remember which now, but its not both.

Check the startup-sequence and see how its being run. It may be in user-startup, again I cant remember off top of my head.

An iso is and iso, you just burn it, and play, .

Read the emulator's manual: normally it gives you a choice to hold a determined keyboard button at boot time to load the CD32 emulator.
