PrBoom (Doom Engine) for Classic Amiga WarpOS

In the spirit of getting things off my hard drive, here's PrBoom for WarpOS. You might say what's the point of this since we have Adoom_wos. This version has some fancy smoothing features which makes Doom less blocky looking, you can however turn all this off in the game preferences on page 3.

This version also uses .mp3 files for the soundtrack, so you might want to get those if you want music.

Just put your doom1.wad in the directory and launch prboom.wos and you should be good to go.

Great release! Wrangler, Hedeon and Cowcat are doing some good work at the moment.

Works very good on my K1. Compared to ADoom this version does not have a hidden guru (memory freed twice) and looks much better. Good job!

Only the screen effect at the start and when starting a game is very slow. But maybe that is a setting somewhere. And memory is not freed if run from CLI. Only after closure of the CLI it is returned.

I have another build of it with network and network server support if anyone really wants to test it for some reason.

That it does, all of my ports use AHI. Also you could try Wrangler's Stratagus if you have any interest in Warcraft 2. Or any of the stuff towards the end of the working part of this list:

Adoomppc on aminet is the "standard" WarpOS version of Doom but maybe the "A" is Attack? Some people report that this version is capped at 37 fps or so, I'm not sure, it seems to run uncapped for me. Anyway if this is good for you in some way I'm pleased.

Here's a fresh build with the latest SDK, it has in theory network support built in, but no network server. So that is probably not working.

Reupload as a zip, somehow the lha got corrupted.

ADoom is ofcourse different port than DoomAttack.
DoomAttack is only for 68k, but is very fast, and have more features like: mouse freelook (great- like in Quake), jump etc.

About uncapped, when I have this option (uncapped framerate) set to "on" in PrBoom, rotate/move in game are not smooth, and for bether performance in my system I turn on caching WAD files.
For "full rotate" in mouse mode, set speed mouse in game to MAX, and in system to LOWES speed.

Also Timidity instruments for MIDI music instead of .mp3 work. If you copy your ATimidity patches folder and copy it to the gamedir and rename it timidity, it had ought to work. Yes this needs to be fixed but until then.
At 640x480 with most of the fancy smoothing effects turned on I get 59 fps on demo3, with MIDI music playing.

Playing MP3 files also works on this last prboom.wosX, but not
smoothly enough :-(, so I'll try MIDI :-)

In this last version, works correct rotation via mouse (full 360 degrees) :-)

I must try this demo3 and my FPS counter too.
BTW. 59FPS- very nice result

It's nothing special, on this same system adoom scores 70fps at 640x480, but the extra eye candy must cost something.

Yes, but if we compare engines and quality, the differences are huge!
And the winner is ofcourse PrBoom

If it is not playing MP3 files smoothly check that the mp3s sound rate matches what is set in prboom.cfg, which should be 22050 by default. I tested some Monkey Island 1 soundtrack files at that rate and it seems fine.
