REQ: short names of crackergroups?
hi,
i need to know all short names of the crackergroups used in TOSEC, for example Skid Row is short SKR and Crystal is CSL. Does a list or something for all groups exist? Also, got a problem with the group "The Lightforce". They used for themself "TLF" (seen as mousepointer on a crack from them), but on TOSEC they are labeled as "LFC"! I think i've read something like a list on a diskmag some years ago. Can't remember where.... Last edited by Adderly; 13 November 2005 at 18:00. |

@bippym: Thanks for the list, exactly what i needed! Looks like that the Tosec labeling has at least one differ from scene itself (as you can see at my first post with Lightforce).
@kriz: Thanks for the link, great site for scene members. |

Anyway, [idoru] said the list is "semi-official at least I haven't updated it for aeons" so hopefully we are just ...arrrg!... forgotten. please add "UNL Unlimited" to the list. |

The list was mainly intended to cover groups that were included in the TOSEC dats - but it's gotta be quite out of date now. The abbreviations used were all selected from looking at various places such as Exotica Scenery & cracktros/intros/text etc on the disk images themselves. The idea being that only groups who had an "accepted" abbreviation of their name (eg. they used it themselves in intros etc) were abbreviated, rather than just making up abbreviations for random groups. This was originally devised to help reduce filename lengths.
The last version of the list I had (had being the operative word, it disappeared along with a load of other useful & not so useful stuff in a hard disk failure quite awhile ago now) was more complete than the one BippyM posted and had a column detailing where (and if) the abbreviation was "proven". This would've been helpful in the Lightforce scenario above For the last probably year or so I've not had much motivation or time for doing anything much relating to the Amiga renaming stuff (nor from what I gather have any of the other "active" renamers - ie. BippyM I'm sure BippyM will correct me here if the reason is different in his case.), so this list is just another one of the things that hasn't progressed much in recent months. |

Then the Amiga games market succumbed to all the parasite cracking, every gamemaker ran from the pirated Amiga at full speed into the consoles\PC, and the Amiga died a slow painful bankruptcy. Now the Amiga is dead, and everyone has to use a PC, everywhere. Yeah - Great times! Woohoo! |

But only a tiny point, as it's not only about games, but about HARDWARE!
If hardware manufacturers convert from Amiga to PC, the original system dies a kind of "death from senescence", because every user has to use hardware from "back in those days" You guys cannot blame game makers for the Amiga death alone, as the Amiga is not a mere bloody gaming console, but also can be used for serious work! When the chips age and age due to lacking up-to-date hardware support, a system will die out too! |

i want to bring back some life to this thread. Got an update for the list (see post #4) from bippym:
BFT - Black Fire Team FCY - Faculty TBT - The Boss Team TCB - Techno Brains my own additions: UNL - Unlimited BTB - Born to Booze NTR - Neutron AVT - Avantgarde ACS - Access UNT - Untouchables FNT - Fanatic EXC - Excalibur HJB - Haujobb PRZ - Prizm ORS - Osiris RJ - RamJam NPL - Neoplasia from Methanoid: TSN - Tension missing abbreviations: Your help is needed here! ??? - Nemesis (maybe NMS?) ??? - Trader's Dream ??? - Ackerlight ??? - ??? any groups missing? Maybe very old ones from the beginning of the scene or the latest if there are any? Anyone knows a scene source of abbreviations like maybe found in diskmags (Cracker Journal, Stolen Data, RAW etc.)? If you spot such a list please remember this thread and drop a note! Also i want to discuss the Skid Row abbreviations. I remember they used SR for themself, at tosec they are labeled as SKR. What do you think? Last edited by Adderly; 16 May 2006 at 17:48. Reason: new abbreviations added |

I've seen Skid Row as SKR and it makes more sense!
If anyone wants to post an abbreviation we need to know where it is from so it can be verified.. If it is from an adf please post the name and CRC32 checksum or up it to the zone. |
