Converting MP4 videos to MPG videos that will play in RiVA
I'm struggling to convert MP4 videos on my PC into MPG videos that will play on my A1200 with RiVA.
I've got some sample MPG videos from CoffinOS r62 that are 640x360 and play very well in RiVA, but using Handbrake on my PC I just can't create any files that RiVA will play. It either just does nothing (doesn't open a window) or opens a window with a static dark green background. If somebody could share their settings or a Handbrake profile, or recommend an alternative app, that would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

But do you want to play it with stock A1200 or you have some accelerator board?

You can download the video in MP4 from YouTube then convert it using FFMPEG encoder. You can use the following declaration (I used FFMPEG on windows). Code:
ffmpeg -i Video.mp4 -r 25 -s 640x360 -aspect 16:9 -b:v 1242k -profile 0 -level 3 -bf 2 -b:a 128k Video.mpg Code:
ffmpeg -i Video.mp4 -vcodec mpeg1video -b:v 1500k -maxrate 2000k -bf 3 -ac 2 -acodec mp2 -b:a 128k -ar 44100 Video.mpg Code:
ffmpeg -i Video.mp4 -vcodec mpeg1video -filter:v scale=640:360 -b:v 1500k -bf 3 -ac 2 -acodec mp2 -b:a 128k Video.mp4 |

A nice front end for FFmpeg:
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/...GUI-for-FFmpeg Edit: I also found this frontend which resembles Handbrake for FFmpeg: https://www.videohelp.com/software/FFmpeg-Batch Hope it helps. Last edited by Aulapatchuc; 28 April 2023 at 14:22. Reason: more information added |

As mfilos says (who has helped me many times these last few weeks, and seems to know me well by now! ) I'm running RiVA on Vampire hardware, so there's no problem with speed. Just seems to be a video format issue.

Does Handbrake make MPEG 1's ?
The last I tried was an MPEG 2, which Riva would not touch and Frogger played without (MP3) sound. |

Its logical mate. The native IDE can reach up to 3Mb/s at tops, while on the Vampire IDE you can get 10+Mb/s (on FastIDE3 mode).

Sorry but why go to so much trouble for conversions ?
On OS3 there is FFPlay which supports almost all video formats such as AVI, MP4, MP2, VOB, MOV and many others |

All my MP4 videos are full HD, though, so I guess it will come back to them still needing to be converted to reduce the frame size from 1920x1080 to 640x360. |

Under WinUAE or Aros it probably will be nice but under classic (especially with Vampire accelerator), you can't beat RiVA's quality. That's why all the fuss for converting... Edit: Just used the Aminet 0.9.1 Git version (040/FPU) and tried playing the same mpeg videos I play with RiVA under my V4SA and the stuttering is unreal! Haven't tried anything else (avi/mov/vob etc) but I seriously doubt that the stuttering will be better... Last edited by mfilos; 29 April 2023 at 08:22. |
