AmigaOne, OS4 & OS5

The latest Amiga Corp. Executive Update apparently stirred the spirits of some of the more tech-headed people around, as The Register seems pretty excited, and people on Amiga.org seem pretty pleased too.

What are your thoughts on this news?

IMHO Bill McEwen & co. are taking far more credit than they deserve for any development of AmigaOne and OS 4.0 that has been achieved. Other than granting the licenses to Eyetech and Hyperion, they really have had little to do with any "hands-on" development of either product. Their main goal has been to make some quick big cash any way they can since it's well known that they are a cash-strapped company. They know there's little cash to be had from the dwindling Amiga community at present, so they've gone for the bigger markets involving PDA users and the like.

From a business point-of-view I can't blame them, but I wish they would stop trying to con existing Amiga users into thinking that they are so very important to them and that by attracting PDA users etc. that they will be creating one big happy Amiga community reminiscent of the glory days of old. Whilst I believe that either (if not both) AmigaOne or OS 4.0 will become a reality, I think it's best to consider both vapourware until buyers (as opposed to developers) have them in their grubby little hands!!

Well Well,

Imagine my surprise when I saw a headline about Amiga when I visited Toms Hardware today. It certainly shows that Amiga Inc is getting some visibility in the scene today.
After being dissapointed time and time again by the companies that represented the Amiga name it is difficult raising hopes again. But I think Amiga Inc is doing a good job of at least creating interest again in the die hard computer scene.
I do think they lack a serious proffesional approach in keeping there promises which is why I'm glad we don't have to rely on them to provide us with the goods. It may be a good thing they've outsourced the development of the OS to somebody who really has the interest of the Amiga at heart.
I hope they can deliver us an OS which holds the idea of what a reall (Amiga!)OS should be like.
The reason why I liked Amiga in the first place was because I shared their idea of what a computer was supposed to be. Fun to work with as well as usefull, not just a dead piece of electronics sitting on your desk.

Anyway it all boils down to this: I don't trust Amiga Inc but I'll still give them a chance to prove themselves.

The content seems to be rather sparse to me, hopefully something will be out there soon that actual users can buy, not this vaporware that keeps getting promised and never comes about
