There is a serious design flaw with the Prototypes-Direct HID mouse/joystick adapter.

Thanks to Julian Carter for pointing it out.

Mr Hammill, the designer has used 3.3v pins to connect the adapter to the Amiga. He should have used 5.5v tolerant pins. Take a

look at the picture below for more details:



In fact the chip that Mr Hammill has used (PIC24FJ64GB002) is not capable of being connected to an Amiga. The Amiga needs seven 5V

tolerant I/O pins, and although the diagram above shows seven 5.5v tolerant pins, one of them cannot be used for I/O (pin 15) as

it is used for USB power only, so there are only six 5v tolerant I/O pins on the IC.

Because too much voltage has been applied to these pins there is a risk of overheating.

I recommend that anyone who has purchased one of these adapters from prototypes-direct contact the seller and ask for a full

refund. He should be more than happy to do that considering the circumstances.

Please note: Because Mr Hammill also designed my adapter, that too has the same design flaw. This adapter is the only one of my

products that I did not design myself, and goes to prove the old adage "If you want something done properly, do it yourself".

My adapter will be withdrawn from sale immediately, and redesigned (by myself). in due course.

As a side note, these types of things may be OK if series resistors are used to limit the power going into the pins. Can't tell without the schematic of the board.

I can tell you for certain that no series resistors ave been used.

The adapter I bought from this guy is already starting to show signs of instability. After using it for 30 minutes or so the left and down mouse movement goes intermittent.

Yes that is a completely different adapter.
