Big grin Was it common knowledge Melon Dezign = Crystal?

Dear all =)

Back when The Tetris Intro was released my brother called the voice number in the intro, and had a long chat with the guy at the other end. He can't remember who it was, but he was told any things such as Melon Dezign are Crystal were the same people.

So I wonder was that common knowledge back in the day?

Where there other groups that did the same?

Hugs,
Sandra =)

That Melon Dezign. was Crystal's demo section was common knowledge. Certain Melon Dezign. members also used fake handles and cracked for other groups than Crystal.

Ok, why would they switch handles when cracking for other groups than Crystal?

Were they not allowed to do that for Crystal?

Actually, I don't recall seeing any names in any Crystal cracks. How many were in Crystal?

IBM, NOMAD, Mr.E, were crackers for Crystal, IBM being the main one from start to finish.

Virtual Dreams were the demo group attached to Fairlight
Alliance Design were the demo group attached to Quartex
Angels were a cracking group, that used to be Dragons the demo group.

Some demo groups whilst having associations with cracking groups wanted to present a separation to the public, in the same way Dan/Anarchy wrote one of Skid Rows most famous cracktros for Lemmings.

Bannasoft of Melon Dezign was also known as Harmonica of Paradox, a cracker.

Ah yes, I do remember NOMAD from the black/blue non-Melon cracker intro on PP Hammer. Very odd it wasn't Melon branded.

I have never understood why Virtual Dreams mentioned Fairlight. As you write, wasn't the whole purpose to keep VD legit?

Do you know why Virtual Dreams were skipped and now Fairlight also makes demos?

NOMAD already left Crystal before Melon Dezign joined. That particular PP Hammer cracktro was written by NOMAD.

You can still be attached to a crack group without actually doing anything illegal.

In the case of VD, they kept it 100% legit. Melon kept it 100% legit, for those Melon members that wanted to do the naughty stuff, they had to do it under a different name.

I dont think IBM was super happy when he found out, but Crystal by this time were winding down and Paradox had reformed and were doing well.

Virtual Dreams kinda broke up in the late 90's, Fairlight were doing their own demos on c64 and Amiga before VD were formed, so it was simply Fairlight doing it themselves

Ok, then it makes more sense...

When a cracker cracks for multiple groups, eg. Black Hawk being famous in both Skid Row and Paradox (but never Fairlight?). Does that mean that some crackers were freelancers, and cracks for whoever that can supply the coolest games?

I know they write their name with a dot, but damn does it make your sentence make no sense, if you don't consider that
I agree, demoscene using the Melon Dezign. label, and cracks using the Crystal label.

Both Harmonica and IBM cracked for Paradox, IBM went under the name "The Johns"
