Disk drive inactivity while light is on
My A500 came with a bunch of cracked games on 2HD disks, and I notice that when I am using a few disks (particularly "Wonder Boy in Monster Land" and "Tony & Friends"), the disk drive doesn't click to the next track but the disk drive light remains on the whole time. I waited a few minutes to no avail. I was told that in this case doing a reset is the best thing that I can do, but I also ejected the offending disk in some cases. Any opinions on this?

Sounds to me like the game has crashed. Try making a new set from ADF/IPF.
Or maybe the disks don't work on A500, kick1.2? |

Wonder Boy in Monster Land works, but the first time I tried it, the disk drive seemed to get stuck and I was forced to take the disk out and do a reset. The copy of T&F that I have was cracked by Paradox. It was made in 1994 and requires at least KS2.0 to work, and if you try to run it under 1.2 or 1.3, the drive light will blink constantly and the motor will stop and start. This has been confirmed under WinUAE.
So, why would T&F be supplied with the A500? Did the previous owner expect me to get an Amiga 600? I am planning to get an A1200 much later, but still... |

Perhaps the seller just threw a bunch of random warez in with the machine and there's no sinister conspiracy here.

do you mean the drive light stays on while you play the game? a lot of games and demos does this, it just means that they don't bother turning the drive motor off between loading sessions..

No, I mean the disk drive light is on and the game doesn't load at all. The only way to solve this is by ejecting the disk and resetting the Amiga. Is this safe? If not, what should I do instead?

That's the only thing you can do really, if the game has crashed.

Sometime hitting various buttons on your mouse / joystick / keyboard can prompt the offending game to get loading. Otherwise, it's reasonably safe to reset your Amiga. I used to do it all the time.
