Confused by 'filters' panel in WinUAE 2.1

I can't work out how to set up the equivalent settings on WinUAE 2.1 as I had on 2.0.1.

On 2.0.1 I used the Direct3D filter, with Bilinear (16-bit), automatic scaling disabled and some other settings added (incl. scanlines at 25%), but I can't work out how to do the equivalent in 2.1. (See screenshot of my 2.0.1 setup).

Any ideas?

Enable D3D mode (misc panel), bilinear (and scanlines) is under filter extra settings.

Thanks Toni, had a look but D3D mode was already selected. I found I had to choose one of the other filters, the one I used to get closest to my previous settings was the PAL filter (the others all seemed to 'smooth' the image somehow, except Null filter which didn't have any scanlines settings).

Incidentally 25% scanline transparency was far too high (compared to my old settings). I found that 10% transparency with PAL filter in 2.1 is roughly equivalent to 25% transparency with D3D filter in 2.0.1.

All filters in d3d mode have scanline settings. Null in D3D mode is same as Direct3D in older version.

My mistake - Null filter does *have* scanline settings, but they don't seem to have any effect. Whatever I set it to, there are no scanlines.

Scanlines needs to be enabled before emulation starts.

Sorry Toni, still doesn't work for me. Direct3D mode on, Null filter selected, I set scanline level & transparency sliders to anything, start emulation = no scanlines.

Send a message via ICQ to NewDeli
Are you using a dark enough background to actually see any scanlines ?
My native display of some horizontal shmup (Menace) bears sufficient D3D scanlines with about 15 in transparency and 70 in scanline level.
Just a remark : They are harder to notice if a multiplier (1:2 or 1:3) and some level of transparency is not used.

Okay... are logs easy to generate in WinUAE? (not at my PC right now)?

Okay, I ticked 'Create Log File' in misc panel of WinUAE and ran the emulation, but there is no log file that I can see (I have WinUAE installed as part of Amiga Forever, but it does not seem to be in my 'Amiga Files' directory or in the actual WinUAE in Program Files directory either).

What am I doing wrong?

The logs go in the same dir as where the Winuae executable is unless for some obscure reason under it's properties you have altered the 'start in' setting..

I'm also having this issue in fullscreen of no bilinear but I put it quite rightly down to me being stupid and said nothing

I'll have a look again as i have not tried it for a few beta's...

Here's my logs Toni...

I'm sure it's me doing something wrong, I just don't seem to be able to get Bilinear on FS, ok in a window?

I have had bilinear in FS in the past but it was ages ago..

I think yours should look like this in 2.1 and make sure as Toni said to have dir3d set in the Misc setting..

Pretty sure there wasn't a log there when I checked this morning, but will try again tonight.

Not had any problem with bilinear...

Ah... 'scanlines.png', what's that? Don't remember seeing that... is that because I just drag-and-dropped winuae.exe over my old executable without installing it properly?

Eek, just replacing the exe isn't always the best idea between final releases..

Get this via the link, unzip it into the floder where the winuae.exe is, that should make a plugins folder..That's where the scanline's are and there's a few of them..

I would say do a full install of 2.1 but I have a feeling it will obliterate your Amiga Forever settings, also you might install it in the wrong place so see no change...

Copying over executable is acceptable, "full install" is never needed.

Start by deleting/moving default.uae and re-creating your configuration file from scratch.

Do not install in Program Files if you are using Vista or newer and you are storing configuration files or other user data in same directory. ("winuae default (old") in paths) [pre-emptive reply: I hope no one suggest changing folder privileges, it is stupid workaround]
