Shadowgate
It could be a lot of things. What emulator are you using and have you tried a different emulator and different settings?
I've been able to run it in the past: |

Looks to me ...
That you've got a dodgy ADF, post a link to the site you got it from and I'll look into it for you.

@enigma
Well well... In your private e-mail to me you told me you can't get it to work in FELLOW - I bet that's the origin of the problem. You did never try to run it in WinUAE, did you? Last edited by andreas; 15 June 2001 at 16:36. |

BLOODY HELL...:((
Grrrrrrr....
I hate that....BTTR telling the people 'Yeah, it works!' and in fact it doesn't. And this was really *easy* to test anyway, you just need to double-click the "Shadowgate" icon. You're absolutely right. I get the same crap as you get ("Software failure task held..."). I found some faulty tracks on the disk ... argh. There's another file with empty name, after analyzing it it only consisted of the one and only character '$0B'. This looks fucking close to a VIRUS, methinks. What we need is another version with a working executable. I bet it's NOT the emulator's fault this time. @Cody: could you upload your version so I can have a look, please? Thanks. BTTR
The version that Back To The Roots tested did work, that's why they said so.
I think that a compatability list like the one on BTTR is pointless: 1. There are different versions of the same game out there - usually different cracks. BTTR would need to test every version of a game and supply a config file for each one. 2. The compatibility of a game sometimes changes between emulator versions. Is someone going to retest every single game each time a new version of an emulator is released? Otherwise, the compatibility info becomes stale. 3. Often games will not work due to a disk problem, lack of a startup-sequence or something like that. Someone may look up a compatibility guide and see that a game works, but if there version has some error, then it will fail. A set of config files cannot do anything for this. Essentially, most games will work with standard configurations. For ones that don't work, you are going to have to play with the settings, run WHD/JST installs, check the disk, be a little creative or play the games on a real Amiga. We aren't talking about standard ROM files here. |

@andreas: You have to test harder... ShadowGate runs fine with WinUAE if you use kickstart 1.2 and 512k chipmem.

Yup, WindowsKiller is right. However, I know that there is a bad version of Shadowgate out there. I had it myself and banged my head bloody trying to run it in WinUAE. Then I found a different copy somewhere, and it worked without problems.

@Windowskiller:
No way here. Neither 0.8.8 R8 nor 0.8.14 R1 works with *my* version and Kick 1.2 and 512K Chip RAM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- WELL, I FIGURED IT OUT MEANWHILE! :bounce It works with "my" configuration "ocs13" from Back 2 The Roots with 'Slow but more compatible' option CHECKED! Yes, you don't even have to stick to Kick 1.2 -- Kick 1.3 works as well. Sheeesh...that was a lotta work to figure that out ...! HUGE thanks go to the webmaster of AmiVenture (formerly CommoDoor) for pointing me in the right direction! Note: this applies mainly to the version that enigma has - I cannot guarantee for other versions. P.S. Tried to d/l version from Andy's Amiga Rarities - no way. Seems busted. Yes, because a lot of older games use the M68k-prefetch insns, probably
