I'm not sure how to ask this without it sounding like I'm trying to start an a barney (because I'm not) but in your auction listing you write, "VINTROPEDIA is an unrivaled market leading paperback book providing a definitive price guide". What makes your prices "definitive" other than your assertion that they are?

We believe the prices in the guide prove "definitive" as we researched multiple resources, both on and offline, for as many items as were possible. This was done by looking at trading sites, auctions, fairs and collector opinions, and trying to find an average between them. Of course there may still be difference in opinion, but we hope people can use our prices as a guide, to help them purchase or sell, and especially stop overspending on sites such as ebay!

Perhaps you could provide a few sample pages for people to get an idea what your guide is like. That might help spur sales. Thanks for letting us know about your book.

Good luck with this. I'd be interested to see how you compare with simply viewing completed listings on ebay and, for example, the back of retro gamer which has a marketplace guideline every month.

I agree with gklinger, a couple of tasters would be good, especially to show that you've got a handle on the more esoteric stuff.

Could you give us a clue on the price of a PAL Amiga 3000 in base configuration, and perhaps a couple of accelerators such as the WarpEngine (common) and the CSA Magnum 40/4 (not terribly common!)

I hope you see this as a positive comment, not merely sniping - I'm trying for the first, not the second

We currently have 3 pictures of the inside of the book on the website under "About the Book", but we're looking at adding a couple more so people can get a sneak peak of the console and computer sections, but obviously don't want to show too much!

A 3000T or 3000UX for £50 each? Wow. I'll take 10 of each please.

Jokes aside, I think most would agree that the current value (what people are paying rather than what it may or may not be 'worth) of a 3000T is closer to £250 and up (sometimes way up) and the 3000UX is so rare that putting a value on it is damn near to impossible.

If I found a working 3000 for that I'd be more than happy. If I found any 3000T for that I'd be ecstatic! And a 3000UX? Well...

If there's a rich vein of Amiga availability that we're unaware of, it'd be great to know your sources of data.

Ooops! Don't think anyone on here will be buying your book based on these values... not unles you also have the location of the shop selling them at these prices!

Errrrr............I think i've heard enough about this book already.

And,you came to the conclusion that a 3000T was worth about £50.00........Alrighty then !!

Absolutely.

It would have been an interesting idea if vintropedia had been a members only website with regularly updated price guides (some sort of ebay scraper?) with what to "look out for" details to aid buying. However as a simple list printed "guide book" it is unfortunately WORTHLESS.

A search on eBay (completed auctions, in any country) is a better source of information and it's free.

And what about the other prices? Don't knock it cos of one mistake. Me, I'd decide for myself what any Amiga is worth based on source and condition. Perfectly functioning SNES with controllers played to death? NP, full price, then buy as new controllers for £40, np. etc.

It's not like grading coins. It's hard.

Now to get a Spectravideo 328 with disk drive...
