Question keep A1200 white-ish

Today i finally got myself a brand "new" A1200, white as snow.

Is there anyone with an advice on HOW to keep it whiteish for a looong time? (and not having to lock it away in its box). I want to have it where people can see it AND use it, but doesn't want it to get as yellow (and ugly) as my a500.

Anyone?

Don't smoke near it.
Don't expose it to continous sunlight.
Use a cover, when not used.

That's all i remember for now

Oh yeah, forgot: No drinking, no vomiting (either at the same time or not), no drugs... don't try to put anything besides flops in the floppy drive, like bananas etc. ,even if Amy wants some (Cannon Fodder format sequence )

... in other words: you're gonna have a rough time with your Amiga :P

I been googling now for an hour about the subject, and it seems there's no miracle cure...(except for no ejaculation ofcourse). Funny to read about all the effort (sunblock, chemicals etc). Even totally darkness won't help.

Nothing you can do. The case that is still white probably had more UV protectant in the plastic used then the others out there (my 1200 is not yellowed either) so it will stay unyellowed. About the only thing I can say to do is keep the system out of direct sunlight, other then that I can't think of anything.

As a toy collector I know everything about yellowing.

It's a reaction in the plastic to both sunlight and oxygen, nothing much you can do to stop it.

For toys you can slow the process down by placing them behind special glass panels that block UV light, but even then some yellowing will occur I guess that wont work for a computer in active use though

The only part that is starting to yellow on my 1200 is the space bar, and ive had mine since 1992. I find this quite odd too, because i used to have a smoke hanging out my mouth most times when playing RPG's on it. And its still very white?

I quit smoking 4 years ago though

It could also be the acid in the packaging material. This is why photographs have archival quality albums.

Acid free paper, which is why real old books have not turned to dust yet.

It must have something to do with the plastic used in production as I have unearthed my thirty year old lego from the loft and the white bricks are as white as snow (with the odd bit of plasticene and crayon).

It's interesting that Blade002's spacebar has yellowed, as my old 600 was fine apart from the bottom row of keys.

How about a 'who's got the most yellow Amiga?' piccy competition?

The keyboards vary, my A2000 keyboard has a non-yellowing top and keys, but the bottom of the case is quite badly yellowed, my A3000 one (or maybe it was an A500?) has a yellow spacebar.
Generally though, I think the consumer machines used the cheaper plastics

Nicotine stains are different again, they can usually be cleaned off plastics fairly well, using strong cleaners such as ammonia or alcohol based ones.
