DKB Megachip...but which of my machines?

Hey all,

I just won a DKB Megachip on eSlay.

The problem is which machine to put it into?

I can choose between putting it in a CDTV or in the A2000 with 8mb fast RAM & '030 board.

Would it be of more use doubling the chip RAM in the A2000? I know chip is good, but would it make a difference here?

Can't see any reason for upgrading the chip in a CDTV with only the 1.3 ROM, but the reason I'm asking here is simple...maybe there is a reason I can't think of!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated folks!

PZ.

I think you're better off putting it in the A2000 as the extr chip will help with productivity apps - DPaint, Octamed, etc.

Are there any games for the CDTV that would need 2Mb chip?

I would think not...but asking anyway just in case. I'm also thinking there may be other things aside from games that it would be good for in the CDTV, but I've no idea what they may be?

Just want to make the most of it, not put it in one machine where another might benefit more, hence my question

I say CDTV. It's an elegant case you can have under your Telly!

If you are planning to add a hard drive, KS3.1 & WB3.1, updated the extended ROM, install WHDLoad then 2Mbyte chip is recommended.

I had planned those, but not anymore...aside from mouse/A2000keyboard/joystick it remains standard. I've given up on expanding it, as I don't use it for anything more than, well, I don't even use it! (*edit* - hoping the extra chip might give me a reason to use it if there is one)

So of no real use in the standard CDTV?

With 2Mbyte ChipRAM you almost have enough RAM to run WHDload CD's?

I have heard reports that the IDE68k interfaces work well with CDTV. Take out the 68000, plop in the adapter + 68000 and wire a CF card slot to the back panel!

Another day, another outlook on the situation.

Forget I even bothered to ask...I don't think I even want to keep the CDTV...bored with it & parts impossible to get, upgrades (aside from this one) cost five arms & three dozen legs...meh, I couldn't be bothered.

Megachip is going in the A2000.

Fast RAM mainly...but expansions I have seen are far too expensive (given my financial standing) for a machine I never use.

Guess I just had a skinfull of beers when I posted this last night, as although I like the CDTV, it's really never used & pretty useless given the other machines I have available to do anything it can & more.

Sorry about wasting everyone's time on this, but at least I have come to a decision on what to do

I had around 37 dollars as my max for that megachip it went for $80 in the end iirc. I have one here but it is NTSC. I would have put it in my cdtv to be honest.

NTSC MegaChips can be converted to PAL by simply swapping the Agnus I think

$102.51 actually (close enough). What kills me is that last year I came across an auction with a MegaChip, an AdIDE, an AdSpeed and an AdRAM with, get this, a $100 BIN. I snapped it up and was really excited only the seller never sent the stuff. Took me a few months to get my money back and I never even got a chance to give the jerk a negative because eBay closed his account.

I've been waiting a long time to vent about that.

P.S. I just noticed that the seller also screwed someone called "rkauer123". I wonder if that's our rkauer?

I would say that fingers bought the one on ebay.com.au as it would be a PAL megachip. It went for around 80AU.

Hey, he not "screw me" . Not in a sexual way, at least.

Are you sure this guy is xzoney? Poor bastard! He actually sent me the gear... almost 3 months after the auction, but was (of course) too late to fix his egay account.

BTW: OMFG! 102USD for just one megabyte? Are people nuts? Hmm... I think I will sell my powerful Supra modem (1200bps!)...

No no no. Zxoney took my money and sent nought and PayPal wouldn't help me so I had to get my credit card company involved. It was quite the ordeal. He has nothing to do (as far as I know) with these current auctions. Sorry about the confusion.

I sure do wish I had got the stuff in that auction though. I had big plans for it all...

From that US auction:
"rules out internal processor cards and internal memory expansions with more than 512 kB RAM"

Sounds worrying since I have 8 meg internal expansion memory & an '030 processor card in the A2000!

Maybe it will have to go in the CDTV after all

I think it will only kill the first 1.5meg of your expansion that it has the same address as. Not sure about that though, maybe someone more techy can answer.

The Megachip rules out only CHIP RAM expansions/extensions. It not override FAST RAM.
