AROS One x86 v1.9 Released



New release of AROS One x86, many new features included in this new version, the possibility to change all the Blue DualPNG icons of the system to the new White DualPNG icons with a simple click.

Many software have been updated and new software has been added, even the games section includes new games installed.

AROS One x86 v1.9 includes the "Aros One x86" manual in PDF, GUIDE, HTM and DOC (PC-Windows) formats.

AROS One is distributed in DVD (ISO) format or USB image from "burned to Pendrive", useful as Live system or to quickly install AROS One on PC.

To the USB image needs to rename the extension according to the program to be used, usually .img, for AROS One we recommend the use of the excellent Rufus or Etcher)

Entered on AROS One x86 "LazSokoban", an old game that after a report from me for some problems encountered, was recompiled by "ALB42", now it is also available for OS4 and MOS and probably will be also for OS3 RTG.

This new version supports the change of Skins, for the occasion I created 3 Skins for AROS One, one of them is called "ArosOne", the one shown in the screenshot.

Created a new Skin for LazSokoban (See Screenshot), also created a Script that allows you to choose and change the Skin on the fly (see screenshot).

In the Standard verison of LazSokoban the Skin had to be changed by editing the configuration files by hand !

On virtual machines such as VMware, VirtualBox and QEmu it works perfectly, recommended VMware for its ease of configuration.

It also works well on PC, but to take advantage of Video Card, Sound Card, Wifi Card and LAN Card, you must have supported PC Hardware.

New icon set for AROS One x86/68k, these are the icons I had created for AfA One some time ago

Finished the Italian Translation of ZunePaint that you will find in the next version of AROS One, it was more complicated than expected, the Descriptor "ZunePaint.cd" was not compatible with "ReCatItPro" (it created decomposed menus)

At first I had decided to translate "ZunePaint.catalog" directly, but then I realized that some menu items could not be translated.

Today doing a bit of research on my old OS3 programs, I found the right tool to correctly compile the translated "ZunePaint.cd" Descriptor, now fully functional, see screenshot.

The translation work doesn't end here, slowly I will see if I can localize other important AROS x86 programs into Italian as well.

If someone would like to localize ZunePaint or other Programs in his own language and does not know how to compile them he can send me the Translated Descriptors, Descriptors are simple text files, eventually we can open a thread dedicated to translations.

Found on the Web an interesting video made with AROS One Live DVD, I believe it was made on a MAC, the author of the video also makes a good appreciation and gives this description:

AROS is a portable Amiga Operating System.
It does run extremely quickly on the toasty Pentiums, cool Ryzens and other X86 processors.

Completed the Icons set in the style of AfA One (my old OS3 Distribution), you will find these icons on the next version of AROS One x86 v2.0.

Performed a lot of work, it's about a thousand Icons processed, avvolte the lavior was stressful, besides Folder and Disk Icons, many application icons were recreated from scratch or graphically improved.

Btw what tool do you use for icons as I use Kens and didn't know what to use to make my owns for the ones missing.

Creating DualPNG Icons is very simple, you can do it manually by creating two PNG images and merge them on Windows with the Copy command or on Amiga with the Join command, you just have to pay attention to the two images which have to be the same size, see attached video.

On the Amiga there are other tools on Aminet but they are more complex.

Instead, you can conveniently and automatically create icons with the Icon Editor, see attached video.

You can find Icon Editor on AROS One x86 and OS4, there is also an OS3 version but it is not available, I use an Os3 beta tester version kindly given by its developer.

Thanks AmigaSystem for the help I wasn't aware exactly how DualPNG worked out.
I Hex-edited a KenIcon getting both states into 2x PNGs and works like a charm.
Also the IconEditor beta version by Paul works just fine in my OS3.2.1 installation.

Paul has created an important and efficient IconEditor tool to quickly create DualPNG Icons for OS3 and AROS.

The IconEditor version for OS4, on the other hand, creates native OS4.1 Power Icons.

I have been asked by some users to add on AROS One x86 an "About" to figure out which version of AROS One is installed on their PC.

To overcome this problem, from the next version 2.0 will be possible to check the version of AROS One x86, from the Workbench bar, from the About of AROS and from a small App that I compiled directly on AROS Onepending on a small MUI source (See screenshot).

I am not a developer but if some simple GCC source happens, you can compile it safely from an AROS One x86 Shell (See second screenshot)

Thanks to SMB2, it is now possible to connect to the shared or Windows Network Drive on both WmWare and a Real PC


Mounting will have automatically if the Mountlist "SMB2" is copied to the WBStartup, this will give the system time to create the Connection and then deposit the conditional volume icon on the Workbench.
