Steam Deck

I got myself a 256GB Steam Deck. I haven't figured out how to run WinUAE on it, but there is already Retroarch in Steam OS. I can confirm that you can set the refresh rate anything from 40hz to 60hz. The scrolling is buttery-smooth when properly set-up.

I cannot get sound in WinUAE when run from Steam OS. I do get sound when run from Linux desktop mode, but I can't set 50hz refresh rate that way. Any suggestion? Some other emulators do have sound when run from Steam OS.

there is hope after all, got my confirmation and purchased, now the wait, and more importantly hoping whoever delivers it doesnt recognise it and make it vanish.

In the meantime I must look at an SD card at a minimum, ideally 1TB but if too expensive a 512GB for now. Heard the write speeds are important otherwise steam unpacking after download takes forever.

I run from EmulationStation-DE with EmuDeck installed. It just works almost flawlessly - most of the WHDLoad games out there will run no problem with the supplied AROS ROM, but adding the original/official KS ROM images smooths things out nicely.

Get an A2 class for the write speed. I have an A1 512GB and it's fine though, most games install in a few minutes.

im showing on Stage 2: PreAdvice > In Transit

so, more soon(tm) again. and yeah the posts above reminded me i shouldnt stick just any old sd-card in this thing, might have a look around, see whats suitable without needlessly spending too much.

hmm, forgot i had to pay import charges when i got my chameleon mk2 from germany and the steam deck came from the netherlands, wonder if theres import tax there as well for the uk.

Ohh nice, mine says it should be delivered today, which is quick, fingers crossed.

I don't think for UK there's import charges as Valve should have taken care of that, I.e. price on site is RRP and includes everything.

Must do some research today as I think I'll primarily use the deck for emulation so need to find the best setup for that.

I didn't pay any import charges on mine, so you should be good.

Also, these are essential installs, though you do have to get down and dirty in Proton:

They run so well it's like they were designed for it.

That looks great, I don't mind getting down and dirty with proton and I use Linux daily.

Mine just arrived, woo hoo, fun times tonight.

thats some good pics, and actually the first snapshot i have seen of an emulated amiga on the steam deck thats fullscreen, other pics and vids ive seen showed emulation as a smaller, non-fullscreen viewport.

I just ordered a 512GB SD card, there's really not much space with the 256GB model if you want to use it for pc gaming and emulators so I'm leaving emulation setup until I get the SD card next week.

reliability of cards compared to their price is a big concern, i "would" like a nice 1tb U2/U3 card to slap on my emulation files, including my ps vita stuff which seems a potential good thing once emulation improves, but if the cards are prone to errors or other fatal issues then thats a lot of cash to risk so im also thinking of a middling compromise of a cheapish 512gb card, for my other devices i have to admit ive never used anything past 256gb in size for sdcards.

I doubt there will be issues regarding errors, they're the same as SSD/MVNE drives, as long as you're not deleting and overwriting too often will be fine.
