Do Wonderdog and Chuck Rock II use the same engine?

In an article from the first issue of Amiga Game Zone (1994) that s2325 posted a scan of recently:
http://eab.abime.net/907029-post291.html

it is stated (2nd paragraph of the 2nd column) about Wonderdog that "the game engine from Chuck Rock 2 was recycled for this one, and the sprites for both games are very similar".

Does anyone have more info. about this?

Apparently, the two coders worked on both games:
http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?N_ref_artist=4234
http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?N_ref_artist=27

so it adds to the likeliness of the info. being correct

Also, the Amiga expert s2325 stated:"If you compare size of playfield in both games they are almost the same."

Size is not proof but hint. In both games character will move vertically if you press down - standing on club or digging hole. I think bosses in both games are always facing left.

developers should have kept routines and engines in house so if they had a good game or routine for something it didint have to be done again from scratch.

To clear up the question if the engine was used on both games here is what Dan told me:

Quote:
Wonderdog was coded for Mega-CD, and then Chuck Rock 2 for Megadrive/Mega-CD was based around that engine. I then started Chuck Rock 2 on Amiga, and after, we decided to convert Wonderdog to amiga too
i hope this answers your question..

Yes, thank you (and Dan Scott) very much.

Edit: Here is the note I have added to the Wonderdog entry. Anyone feel free to give your opinion/suggest changes:
Quote:
Wonderdog is based on the game engine that was used for the Amiga version of Chuck Rock 2.
From author Dan Scott:
"Wonderdog was coded for Mega-CD, and then Chuck Rock 2 for Megadrive/Mega-CD was based around that engine. I then started Chuck Rock 2 on Amiga, and after, we decided to convert Wonderdog to amiga too."

It is interesting to note that it is the exact opposite of what happened on Sega platforms (Chuck Rock 2 using the engine used originally for Wonderdog).

That's pretty much accurate.. although Chuck Rock 2 was started briefly on the Megadrive, before Wonderdog took over as the priority project.

Wonderdog Amiga, was a bit of a by-thought... I told the boss at Core, I could probably convert it to the Amiga in 2 months.. I think in the end it took 3 months.. but still was a nice quick project

Wonderdog always reminds me of the Japanese console the Wondermega ( i think was Mega CD with karoke function) didnt JVC license Wonderdog as a mascot for it?

Wonderdog was produced for JVC by Core. They commissioned the game to use the mascot for their Wondermega console

Ah that explains why it reminds me of it then! I remember seeing and wanting one in Sega Pro magazine a year or two before it came out over here.
