Hmmm it looks like it would do the job, and at $92 its a steal! id have me one of those if it was up to the job, would also suit my little 8 bit pals as well. wonder if it would work in the uk??? and if they would ship to uk. the cables could be made up or buy there cable and just get the bog standard 23pin RGB to ( pin VGA adapter freely available on amigakit or ebay.

perhaps the more techy amonst us will enlighten us plebians as to whether this is a good cheap and new flixer fixer, scandoubler?

from what i can read its only CGA, which means it wont provide smooth colours for AGA (24bit) graphics,

it will work fine for OCS/ECS and obviously 8bit/16bit colour

I could labour you with the technical detail... but I have to leave something for Alexh to say, not only is it Union Rules, but we must encourage him out of the house from time to time

If the monitor you hook this gizmo is able to sync in 50Hz vertical refresh, the answer is yeah, baby!

But this not happen very often in TFT/LCD displays...

This is a well known part. The Cypress CM-397

http://www.cypress.com.tw/product.ph...onverters&SR=1

Not a good part, they cannot even get their terminology correct.

It says CGA but it isnt!! CGA only had two outputs, digital TTL RGB (1-bit per colour) and analog composite and this adapter can convert neither of those! It does analog RGB and analog component.

It also has a 50Hz to 60Hz scan rate converter (probably sucks, but hey) which means your LCD doesnt have to support 50Hz for PAL screens. The bummer is you cannot switch it off... which means if your monitor DOES support 50Hz you cannot get smooth scrolling even if you wanted to!

IMHO the only scandoublers worth buying for an AGA machine are:

Picasso IV
Arxon
Petsoff dblscan 4000

And the soon to be released Jens Schoenfeld internal A1200 scandoubler.

- full 24 bit colour depth for all screenmodes and output frequencies
- all OCS/ECS/AGA screenmodes displayed and scan-converted, output is always over 60Hz and flicker-free
- fallback to legacy flickerfixer-type 49,9Hz modes at the user's choice
- optional scanline emulation for retro-feeling
- re-configurable design, new screenmodes can be added with a software upgrade
- Genlock compatible (Toaster/Flyer)
- no fiddling with adjustments, just plug in and use
- low power consumption, no heat problems (3.3V design, 2.5V core voltage)

Production start by the end of this month [April 2008], availability in summer, target price 129,- EUR each. Versions for A4000D and OCS/ECS Amigas coming up when the A1200 version started selling and some money is made back.

This flickerfixer breaks three rules in one product:
- 16 bit is not the limit in colour depth
- 50Hz is not a "must" when flickerfixing PAL screens
- SHires can be perfectly displayed and flickerfixed

The design uses only up-to-date parts and is moving more than 300 Megabytes of data per second.

Individual Computers: Good hardware for good computers.

Jens

Case concerns aside, would Jens internal unit work on a CD32 mobo?

He said about €140 which given the ultra low value of the $ means about $220
