Vsync - Gsync
I have a 144 hz 4k HDR monitor, but am unable to get Winuae’s vsync to work. When I select the vsync, the FPS shoots up to 144 even though I set Winuae to PAL - 50 hz. I also tried setting the monitors refresh rate to 50hz, which it can do. But the FPS still jumps to 144. If I select no vsync, the FPS jumps to normal 50 FPS, but it’s not silky smooth.
Is the vsync in Winuae broken? Thanks! |

VSync should be disabled for GSync (and Freesync). The screen refresh rate should also be higher than the target refresh rate. 144Hz is fine.
The feature needs to be enabled in both the driver's control panel (for fullscreen and windowed) and in the monitor's settings. And the GPU needs to support it, of course. That's all I've done on my 240Hz Freesync + NVIDIA setup and everything's smooth. |

Thanks! Are you using a window or full screen? I prefer a window as full screen affects the brightness of the HDR desktop when it

Are you facing any issues with v-sync off? If not, then just leave it off. |

I had trouble getting the Denise C64 emulator to work with VRR in windowed mode, while it worked fine in full-window. That might depend on the Windows version. I'm still using 10. Another factor to consider is some monitors limit the lower VRR range. I expect GSync would have no issues, but Freesync ("GSync-compatible") on my LG needs to be in "Extended" mode to sync all the way down to 50Hz. It might be worth lowering the refresh rate to e.g. 60Hz to see if it can sync from there. |

It still occurs when I set the monitor refresh rate to 50hz or 60hz. The FPS still jumps to 144.

ie having an IPS 144hz monitor it doesn't make sense enabling VRR/Gsync
it force the monitor to run at 50hz this make the monitor less responsive ( more input lag ) and adds more motion for winuae just select a 144hz screen and set vsync off all IPS/TN/VA monitors have less motion blur and less input lag at max refresh rates having an oled monitor is a different history because those are really fast even at 50hz |

to simplify what is better for winuae depending of the monitor :
any IPS /VA/TN monitor 60hz/75h > enable VRR any IPS /VA/TN gamer monitor supporting 144hz or higher refresh rates > select the max refresh rate and disable VRR/VSYNC any oled monitor > enable VRR for CRT monitors also is better disabling Vsync if the monitor suppport 120hz/144 hz |
