A1020 service/parts manual?
Are there anyone knows of a service/parts manual for the A1020 5.25" floppy drive?
(In particular a name/number for the pin that the closing handle is attached to.) |

The drive mechanism won't be covered in the A1020 service manual (if it exists). Looking at pictures of the front, the Commodore 1571 drive may well have used the same models of drive mechanism though, so you could try to find a cheap used/broken one of those to salvage parts from.

>>The A1020 utilizes an ALPS mechanism and a modified 1571 drive case.

Thx. I knew it is an Alps, it seems identical to a 1.2M DS/HD model from pictures I have googled.
I have two other drives that uses similar handles, but they are different makes and have totally different pin sizes. (One waiting for an older pc with a MK3 Catweasel and the other is a borked A8 XF551.) Even finding a broken 5.25" is hard. I was hoping there was a slight chance the pin had a part number that could be ordered somewhere. (And to top it off it is a 110V unit but I route out a standard 4-pin 5/12V connector to what used to be an external DAT enclosure that feeds it juice.) --- Anyone know how close it is to a 1571? I have at least found a part number for 1571 "Disk Eject Lever C 252050-01" but that might only be the plastic end part as I saw in a German parts list it was simply listed as "knob". Just saw a picture of a 5.25" disk on an Amiga yesterday and was told about the A1020. I understand that it offered 440k of space? Was any software for the Amiga distributed on 5.25"?

No, it was strictly for file exchange with PCs.

The old Transformer PC emulator also supports the 1020.

It was not strictly for file exchange with PC.
They were also used as regular storage. 5.25 floppies were cheaper! And DD 5.25 floppies were 880KB just like regular amiga floppies. (See attachment) Last edited by fgh; 01 August 2024 at 01:42. |

That's what somebody mentioned under said photo
Nice. If you used a lot of disks it would pay off to use 5.25 DD floppies. |

Some years ago I bought a box full of 5.25” disks and they were all Amiga formatted - I guess it was a big deal if you already had a lot of 5.25” from your C64 and you could now re-use them on your Amiga.

Ah, right. I forgot that about the 1020. Well at least it’s better at writing C64 and 360kB PC floppies then

Yep, perfect for 48tpi 40 track action.
Shame it uses the 1571 style mechanism. It is advisable to always store the A1020/1571 with a vibration protector card inserted so that the top head doesn't twist. |
