Roadshow
So is this prob the best way to connect to the interwebs on 2021??
Ive never really needed to connect an amiga to the net but i can see some advantages and never having done it before i dont know the options. Google drives me to roadshow, is this a good choice?? |

It's a fine choice.

Also I suggest using Roadie (on Aminet) as a front end for Roadshow.

But if you need something today, download MiamiDX

Roadshow is the best way to connect to the internet. If you have OS3.9, there is Genesis included, which you can test and see if it covers your requirements. Have in mind that Roadshow is the fastest TCP/IP for AmigaOS avaliable.

I have tried Genesis, MiamiDX and Roadshow. Roadshow is the best, for sure.

I tested roadshow years ago and it is the fastest with fast hardware.
Miami with nmi drivers was a good contender also, but not as fast. I don't have the numbers handy but roadshow on a 80mhz 060 and xsurf 100 was really fast. |

Roadshow is the fastest... It just is .
Some of my numbers taken from an older thread here on the forum "I'm using a pcmcia ethernet card (Genius ME3000IIse) via cnet.device. 1.9 and observed the following speeds with tcpspeed (Win10 Host). (cnet16 and tuboio versions just refuse to work or instantly crash the amiga) With memory set to 70ns I get 600 kB/s with Genesis and 730 K/b/s with Roadshow. Running at 50ns, Genesis gets 700 kB/s and Roadshow 770 kB/s So that's worst case and best case." I have a 10mbit pci card via mediator in the Amiga atm but no results written down. But last i checked it easy managed to max out 10mbit with Roadshow. (I don't recall result with Genesis) Last edited by Mad-Matt; 20 July 2021 at 13:37. |

I have tried all the options that are out there and Roadshow is the only one that feels integrated in AmigaOS, and not like a separate application that you need to run.

Did anyone have a chance to set MiamiDX against Roadshow? I wonder how they compare in terms of speed.

I don't really need support for MiamiDX, as "it works for me™". |

It is good to support Amiga development but this system is retro no matter what.
I have no problem with OS 3.1 and MiamiDX. Works good enough for my needs. MiamiDX even comes with a GUI. Almost only thing I use Amiga for online is to FTP stuff from my Linux server. Amiga files are not exactly big so even if MiamiDX is 30% slower than Roadshow, it normally equals a few sec. extra. Regarding upload, ping and other stuff I have no idea, but I did not feel Roadshow was 30% faster than MiamiDX using a web-browser. I did not notice any difference at all. No love for AmiTCP?
http://aminet.net/package/comm/net/AmiTCP-bin-30b2 (Source code here.) I've been using this version for several years, works good, but have no idea how it compares to other TCP/IP stacks. |

Would have been nice for TCP/IP to have been included in 3.2.
