Amiga A500/A2000 Diagnostic Kit

Guys check this out...

The Amiga A500/A2000 Diagnostic Kit is very rare and used by official Commodore service companies. Patrick from dottyflowers.com has acquired one and has managed to rescue the software for this system using Kryoflux and the ADF workshop.

I knew that something like that needed to exist!

If only we could clone them, we could diagnose and rescue many other Amigas which are currently "dead"

@dottyflowers

Thank you for sharing this rare file but can you upload the original dump (in The Zone!?), even damaged?

Sure, no problem! They're great fun to tinker with. Have a look at the old jdisk.library, source code in the editor temp files and even play around with alink, absload, wack and testmem (all in c/). Not too much to gain by undeleting stuff though..

Have fun, they're in the zone. Let me know if you find something worth sharing ;-)

Thank you,
for preservation, I prefer make an in-place repair. It's done in The Zone!
However, your fixed version will be integrated into TOSEC (not the one you put in The Zone because it is not the right file!)

Hi Crashdisk, I get it that you like to do it yourself. I already sent mai a message June 13th with the right file but thanks (again!) anyway!

I just dumped the two disks from this kit. One is a 3.5" with Amiga-side software, the other is a 5.25" PC floppy with some terminal software on it (which is used to connect to the diagnostic kit through RS232).

The Amiga floppy seemed to dump without errors using the Kryoflux, however the PC floppy was damaged so could not get a good dump.

I will put these dumps in the zone if it is interesting to anyone.

To copy the hardware will be quite complex as it contains a lot of components. There is a ROM onboard the diag kit which the Amiga can boot directly from, bypassing the OS.

Edit: After cleaning the drive and redumping, I could get a much better dump of the PC floppy. It still has some errors though, but only about 1/3 as many as the first dump.

I see the manual does mention a test for the 2nd fire button of a joystick port. Too bad it was never used back then.

It works pretty well if some basic stuff is working. If you have a fried mainboard it's useless. It bypasses the CPU and such but if you have two or more broken components it won't find it. I *am* amazed by the fact it finds shorts on the mainboard too though..
