Vital Light AGA
I'm pretty sure an AGA floppy version of this title existed. I think it was briefly mentioned at the end of the review in AP48. Plus this page on GAGE seems to confirm the existence of an alternate version, not to mention an HD-installer for it.
How come this hasn't appeared in TOSEC then? Is it extremely rare? If anybody has a copy of it somehow it would be appreciated, thankye. |

But according to Zarkov's installer, the AGA game uses a MAINPART file. I'm not even sure what that 4-disk Skid Row version is exactly, readme claims to be some kind of pre-release, but it looks more like a CD³² rip to me filewise. And no, no such MAINPART exists on these disks.
The installer says the AGA version was cracked and AGA fixed by Craig of Pirates. Looks like one of those distant cracks that don't get unearthed yet. |

Here's a screenshot from the cracktro of the so-called AGA version. It's really just an AGA fixed version. The name of the executable file is "MAINPART", so at least this information is correct.
The 4-disk crack from Skid Row is the full game. The 2-disk versions don't include the intro. But I think there was no intro on the disk version, so the Skid Row crack is very probably a CD32 rip. Last edited by derSammler; 07 February 2005 at 22:03. |

*checks his TOSEC collection*
Nope, there's only a non-cracked version, a Paradox disk 1, and the aforementioned 4-disk Skid Row crack. No Pirates edition present in the set it looks like. |

But let me repeat again that the Pirates crack is not an AGA version. There's nothing special about it. Even that "fixed for AGA" seems to be nonsense. The game was released in 1994 and in the same year they released the CD32 version as well. Therefore, I can't believe that the disk version fails on AGA Amigas... |

yep might as well have it. We are talking about the LO-RES font ?, not the Hi-res font that is doing the pirates ascii.
Also does the cracktro have a tune, and is it any good ? |

The cracktro does have a tune, and it's alright... I guess.
But anyway. Thanks for quietly zoning the thing up, WK - much appreciated! However, is it just me or is this game really hard to get fully working under WinUAE? It seems to require a minimum of Amiga 500+/2Mb chip at least, but various problems I've encountered under various Amiga include: 1) The screen remaining totally blank after leaving the character screen thingy when it's supposed to display level info and play some music. Pressing fire on this blank screen anyway causes you to hear the usual in-game sounds, and judging by said sounds, the controls work, but without anything to see on the screen whatsoever all this seems fruitless. This occurred often to me and it was a pig to get the level to actually display properly. Unfortunately I forget which exact config I used to achieve this. 2) The thing guruing just before the counter on the character screen thingy hits zero. This sometimes happens on the first level or after it. 3) The game not even starting up properly after finishing with loading MAINPART.... screen just stays blank. Might be to do with A500+ or incompatibility with slow RAM or whatever, having trouble recalling. And another thing.... anybody care to scan in the Amiga Power review of VL (if they have it) and up it to the Zone if poss? I'm pretty sure it mentioned at the very bottom-right corner a seperate AGA version you could get "for £10 more" or something like that. |
