A2000HD: Is this a good deal?

Hello All,

I have the option of buying an A2000HD, the seller claims that it features 1 MB Chip RAM

and 4 MB Fast RAM (on SupraRAM card). Among other features are A2091 SCSI Controller with 50MB HD and additional SCSI Controller (Dataflyer model) with 80MB Hard drive. It is also fitted with a DKB Kickstart Switcher (with 1.3 and 2.04 installed). The A2000 features a Revision 6 motherboard. The seller also removed the battery in order to prevent damages to the surrounding traces or chips.

He is asking for $125 for it (it also comes with a 1084S-D1 monitor). Is this a good deal? Should I buy it?

Thanks in advance for your comments and insights!

Not sure of USA amiga prices and availablity of systems but the machine is pretty good for a non accelarted 2000. I would ask on amiga.org as there are more americans who know the market.

By the way, Is it local to you? for the peace of mind of avoiding courier transit i would always pay a little extra.

$125 is a good deal with the monitor. On its own I wouldn't go more than $90.

I'd say yeah it's worth it, but if you're going to heavily upgrade it you're better off with either A3000, A1200 or A4000 as they have 32-bit chip RAM access (much faster).
Nonetheless, it's a preference. Look at my A2000 in the signature, quite an updated beast. :-)

How do I switch between PAL and NTSC for games? Is there a special hot key for this? Or am I at the mercy of the cracking group discretion which had enabled this function?

Thanks!

Hold the right mouse button while booting the Amiga, and you should (if kick 2.0x or newer) get a pop-up menu where you can change it in Display Options or something.
I have no idea how to do it on kick 1.2/1.3, maybe you can use a custom boot-disk to change it?

For wb 1.3 look for a program called degrader. It allowed you to do a warm reset into either pal or ntsc. It also allowed you to change memmory avail ie force 512 k chip etc for some of the old games. I remember in the day aving to run it every so often to get thevgames working right.
